This is the last week of accepting donations. Reminder: they must be in good condition and we DO NOT accept textbooks, encyclopedias, magazines or items in poor condition (stored in basement for years). We do appreciate donations but if you have textbooks, musty moldy books, please put them out for trash; do not bring them to us as they are not usable.

The Friends of the Rauchholz Library are accepting donations of books, games, and dvds in GOOD CONDITION for their book sale. Items that are musty, moldy, water damage or falling apart will not be accepted. No magazines, textbooks, encyclopedias, Time Life Series or Reader Digest items will be accepted. Donations may be brought to the library during their hours; items left on sidewalk outside hours will be discarded. Thank you! Donations need to be brought in containers/boxes that can be left at library.

ALA is heartbroken at the passing of country music legend, cultural icon, and champion of literacy Dolly Parton.

Dolly’s award-winning Imagination Library initiative, inspired by her father’s inability to read or write, has put hundreds of millions of free books into the hands of children across America and was considered by her to be one of her greatest achievements.

“We’re giving books to kids who wouldn’t have a chance to get them otherwise,” she told American Libraries in a 2018 interview. “A lot of people think this is just for poor children—it’s for all children. It’s important to get books into the hands of any child that we can.”

ALA was proud to confer Dolly with an honorary lifetime membership, the Association’s highest honor, in 2023 for her lasting impact on librarianship, libraries, and the communities they serve.

Dolly was also part of ALA’s Celebrity READ campaign, in which she holds a copy of 'The Little Engine That Could.'

“I’ve always related to that book because I’m the little engine that did!” she said.

The next sewing class at the library will be on Wednesday, September 16th from 4:00-7:00 PM. You do not need to arrive right at 4 o'clock to attend; you can drop in anytime during the class to join in and learn!

Sewing volunteer Susan will be here to lead the class with a focus this month on making repairs to clothing and other fabric items. Bring your sewing machine, your items in need of repair, and sewing projects you are currently working on and learn how to sew and repair them yourself!

Class is geared for adults and teens with their own sewing machine. Get help with your machine, ask questions, and gain confidence in your sewing abilities!

For our patrons who use our online newspapers: we've added direct links to The Midland Daily News and The Detroit News on our website. You can now just click the icons on our website www.rauchholzlibrary.org to go directly to those papers. If you haven't checked out our newspaper database, be sure to do so. Access World News give you access to over 6,000 newspapers and news sources. Tired of the firewalls on The Saginaw News or Midland Daily News? Just use your library card and our links to read both of those newspapers!

Thank you to everyone who donated hygiene products this summer at the library. Today the items were delivered to St. John XXIII Catholic Church (St. Mary campus) to be added to their pantry that serves the Hemlock, Merrill, and Breckenridge area. Thank you for helping the library give back to the community.

The Friends of the Rauchholz Library will be meeting (Sept. 9) to plan their booksale/bakesale (being held Sept. 19) and to review plans for the year. They are looking for volunteers to help with the sale and donate bake goods. Help is needed with set up, working the hours, and some clean up. If you're interested, please join us at the library for the meeting.

The Summer Challenge closing party for those who participated in the reading program was a lot of fun Wednesday morning! Richland Township Fire Department brought a fire engine for the kids to explore and learn about, and also performed free car seat checks throughout the morning.

The kids also played games inside the library, enjoyed some tasty treats, colored with chalk on the library sidewalk, colored dinosaur pictures, made paper airplanes, and took home goodie bags from the library and fire department! Thank you everyone for an awesome summer!

The kids mini-camp at the library last Thursday was Outdoor Fun Camp! The kids played outdoors with jump ropes, ladder ball, giant Jenga, water balloons, and more!
