DAV (Disabled American Veterans) is a leading nonprofit that provides a lifetime of support for veterans of all generations and their families. Every year, we help more than 1 million veterans in positive, life-changing ways by helping them access benefits they earned, like healthcare, education and disability, and connecting them to meaningful employment opportunities. DAV is the nation’s most resourceful veterans service organization, keeping the promise to support America’s veterans.

🇺🇸 Did You Know? 🇺🇸

The Disabled American Veterans (DAV) is a chartered veterans service organization, but we are not government funded. Our ability to serve Montana’s disabled veterans and their families depends on the generosity of donors, volunteers, and community support.

DAV is recognized by the IRS as a 501(c)(4) Veterans Organization, which means eligible donations made to support our mission may be tax-deductible. These contributions help us provide free assistance with VA claims, transportation to medical appointments, advocacy, and support services for veterans across Montana.

Every donation, no matter the size, helps us continue fighting for the men and women who have sacrificed for our nation.

Thank you for supporting Montana’s veterans and helping us fulfill our promise: Keeping Our Promise to the Men and Women Who Served.

🇺🇸 VETERANS, FAMILY MEMBERS, FRIENDS, AND SUPPORTERS — WE NEED YOUR VOICE! 🇺🇸

Want to make a real difference for veterans without spending hours writing letters or tracking legislation?

Join the DAV Commander’s Action Network (CAN) today!

CAN is one of the easiest and most effective ways to help protect and improve veterans’ benefits, healthcare, and programs. When important legislation affecting veterans comes before Congress, you’ll receive a simple email alert explaining the issue and why it matters. (DAV)

Here’s how easy it is:

✅ Sign up once
✅ Receive legislative alerts by email
✅ Click the alert to learn about the issue
✅ A pre-written message to your Senators and Representatives is already prepared for you
✅ Review it, personalize it if you’d like, and click “Send”

That’s it! It takes less than a minute, but your voice helps influence the lawmakers making decisions that affect veterans and their families. DAV CAN tracks the legislation and provides the tools needed to contact elected officials quickly and effectively. (DAV Dept. of Louisiana)

You do NOT have to be a veteran to participate. Family members, caregivers, friends, and supporters are encouraged to join. The stronger our grassroots network, the stronger our voice in Washington. Grassroots advocacy and active participation are key to achieving legislative victories for veterans. (DAV of North Dakota)

Every message matters. Every voice counts. Together, we can help ensure our elected officials keep the promises made to those who served.

Help Us Stop Major Cuts to Veterans Benefits!

After working for months to find a way to pass the Major Richard Star Act and other benefit and health care improvements, new legislation was introduced in the House and Senate yesterday that included many DAV-supported bills, but also contained an unacceptable provision that could cut benefits for up to 1.5 million veterans in the future and reduce their disability compensation payments by as much as $57 billion. This is wrong and we need your help to stop it.

The legislation (H.R. 9237/S. 4744, Take Care of America’s Veterans Act) would effectively stop compensating veterans for the impact of service-connected tinnitus and dramatically reduce compensation for most disabled veterans suffering from sleep apnea if they use a medical device (CPAP) while sleeping. These changes would apply to all new claims as well as any reassessments or reevaluations of existing claims.

Eliminating compensation for sleep apnea and tinnitus is not a reflection of improved outcomes for veterans—it is a budget-driven decision that shifts the burden onto those who have already sacrificed in service to our nation. We reject the premise that the only way to fulfill the promises made to the men and women who served in the past is by cutting benefits for veterans in the future.

DAV will not compromise our core mission of ensuring veterans receive the benefits they have earned and deserve. Nor will we compromise our principles and leave future generations of servicemembers with fewer protections and benefits than those available today.

Please contact your senators and representative today and urge them to oppose any cuts to veterans benefits.

Urging passage of the Dental Care for Veterans Act (H.R. 210)

On May 20, DAV testified before the House Veterans’ Affairs Committee, urging passage of the Dental Care for Veterans Act (H.R. 210). This legislation would expand dental coverage to all service-connected disabled veterans and help address longstanding gaps in oral health care.

Current VA dental eligibility rules are limited and do not provide comprehensive dental coverage to all enrolled veterans. As a result, many veterans with serious oral health needs, including conditions associated with service-connected disabilities or their treatment, can face barriers to timely care. This can contribute to chronic pain, worsening oral health, and broader health complications.

Improving oral health is a medical imperative:
• Poor oral dental health is associated with chronic conditions such as diabetes and heart disease.
• Nearly 25% of veterans receiving VA care have diabetes, and 11% have heart disease—rates that underscore the importance of having access to preventative and restorative dental care.
• Veterans with heart disease who do not receive dental care face substantial higher annual costs associated from missed workdays compared to those who see a dentist.
Your voice is critical. We urge Congress to address this longstanding gap in veteran healthcare by mandating VA to provide dental care in the same manner as all other medical services.
