When Kisakye Joan finished secondary school, she had a dream and no way to make it happen.

She wanted to study automotive power engineering. The program was expensive, the path was unclear, and hope felt like a distant thing.

Then ECM's Next Step Program stepped in.

With sponsorship support, Joan enrolled in her engineering course and didn't just survive - she led. She was elected class coordinator by her peers for three consecutive years. She graduated. She landed a job at a technical solutions workshop. She launched her own small electronics business. And today, she mentors and leads others in a field where women are rare.

But if you asked Joan what changed first, she wouldn't point to a diploma or a paycheck. She'd point to an ECM Saturday Club, and a moment when the Word of God showed her that she was loved and that God had good plans for her life.

That truth carried her through everything.

Young adults across Uganda and Ghana are ready to step into their futures. They just need someone to believe in them - and to show up when it matters most.

What an incredible community you are. This year churches, businesses, schools, and families across the area came together for our 2026 Shoe us the Love Shoe Drive, and the result?

Nearly 6,000 pairs of shoes collected, with every dollar raised going directly to fund ECM's Next Step Program!

Next Step walks alongside young adults as they transition from childhood sponsorship into independence, pursuing university degrees, learning trades, and building futures rooted in faith. Because of YOU, more young adults in Uganda, Ghana, and the DRC can take that next step.

Every gift tells a story. But some gifts shape a lifetime.

Recently, Rebecca received a special package at ECM's Gayaza Hope Center in Uganda - a new school bag, a tea flask, sanitary pads, wipes, perfume, and washing soap. Practical gifts, given with care and dignity.

But among them all, one stood out: a brand new Bible.

At ECM, we believe the most important thing we can give a child isn't found in material things alone. It is the Word of God, planted early - shaping who they are and who they are becoming.

"Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old, he will not depart from it." - Proverbs 22:6

So alongside every gift of food, school fees, and clothing, ECM places a Bible in the hands of every child they support. Because true transformation begins with Jesus.

Meet the Communities | ๐ˆ๐ซ๐ข๐ซ๐ข, ๐”๐ ๐š๐ง๐๐š

One hundred communities. Ten years. One Gospel.

Some communities are easier to reach than others. Iriri is not one of them.

Located in the Karamoja sub-region of northeastern Uganda, Iriri is home to about 13,000 people - predominantly Karamojong, one of Uganda's most historically marginalized people groups. Poverty runs deep here. Food insecurity is a constant reality. The land is harsh, farming knowledge is limited, and access to healthcare and education remains scarce. For generations, Iriri has been the kind of place that the rest of the world tends to overlook.

ECM doesn't overlook it.

Through our Karamoja Homeland Hope Center, ECM has established a long-term presence in Iriri built on one conviction: that every community - no matter how remote, no matter how hard to reach - deserves the hope of the Gospel and the dignity of real support.

What does that look like in Iriri? It looks like farmers learning to cultivate maize and vegetables in ECM's demonstration gardens, with biblical teaching on stewardship woven into every session, because caring for the land and trusting God are not separate things.

It looks like church leaders being trained and equipped, then sent back into their own communities to multiply what they've learned.

It looks like a radio talk show carrying the Gospel into homes and villages that a Hope Center staff member can't always reach on foot.

It looks like children memorizing Scripture, writing letters to their sponsors, and sitting in Bible clubs that give them a vision for their lives beyond what poverty has told them is possible.

And it looks like families in our Family Empowerment Program building small businesses - retail shops, gardens, salons - and learning to save, to plan, and to dream.

The local leaders of Iriri asked for a partner. ECM said yes.

Ten communities like this are already launched. Five more are in the works. The goal is 100.

Growing up in the slums of Katwe, Uganda, Esther Moru had little reason to hope.

Life around her was defined by hardship. She watched her mother brew alcohol to survive, and deep in her heart, she believed she already knew her own future - that she would be next in line, trapped in the same cycle.

But grace found her.

Through ECM, Esther was given something she never dared to imagine: an opportunity. She enrolled in a Catering and Hotel Management program, and where many would have given up, Esther pressed forward. She graduated with excellence.

Today, Esther works as a chef at one of the finest restaurants in the heart of Kampala. The girl who once thought her story was already written now spends her days creating, leading, and thriving in a career she loves.

Her success has rippled outward. Esther helps her mother pay rent and put food on the table - the same mother she once feared becoming like. Her younger brothers look up to her with pride. And she carries a deep desire to reach back into her community and see other children rise the way she did.

Through it all, Esther gives the glory to God. Every door that opened. Every skill she gained. Every meal she prepares with confidence. She sees it all as evidence of God's love poured out over her life.

No beginning determines the end. With grace, faith, and opportunity, a life can be completely rewritten.

Friends, you showed up. And because you did, 1,330 people in Karamoja have food on the table today.

A few weeks ago, we asked you to give toward an emergency food crisis unfolding in Napak District, Uganda. Families we have walked alongside for years, people we know by name, were going without meals. The need was urgent. And you responded.

You helped us raise more than our goal, and we are so grateful.

Here is what your generosity made possible:
In August, ECM's Karamoja Homeland Hope Center completed the first phase of relief, distributing emergency food supplies to 100 households across three villages: Kaurikiakine, Choli Choli, and Aregepuwa. In total, 1,330 people received help, including 10 individuals with disabilities. Each family received posho (maize flour), beans, cooking oil, and salt, staples that represent real, immediate relief from hunger.

These are families ECM has sat with in Bible study and trained in sustainable farming. And right now, they are eating because you gave!

But we are not finished. A second phase is coming in September. The remaining funds will go toward drought-tolerant seeds and agricultural support, so these same families can plant again and build toward a harvest they can count on. The goal was never just to meet the emergency. The goal is to walk alongside these communities toward lasting resilience.

"If you spend yourselves on behalf of the hungry and satisfy the needs of the oppressed, then your light will rise in the darkness, and your night will become like the noonday." Isaiah 58:10
