Session 5 of Fundamentals of Soul Care is now available: Progressive Sanctification
How do Christians actually change?
In this session, we look at the doctrine of progressive sanctification and why it is essential for faithful biblical counseling. We distinguish justification, sanctification, and glorification and consider how God’s gracious work relates to the believer’s responsibility to pursue holiness.
Grace does not make obedience optional, and Christian growth is not passive. God works in His people through His Word, His Spirit, prayer, the church, obedient practice, and even the circumstances of life.
We also consider how these truths shape realistic counseling goals: expecting genuine growth without demanding instant perfection and recognizing evidences of grace along the way.
The alternative to legalism is grace-driven obedience, not passivity.
