The Bar 717 Ranch, Camp Trinity offers children ages 8-16 an opportunity to spend the summer on a beautiful mountain ranch. Through Ranch activities, the camp program emphasizes taking responsibility for oneself and others in a non-competitive, supportive environment. Campers may choose freely from activities including horseback riding, backpacking, gardening, animal care, river swimming, arts and crafts, photography, music, drama, archery blacksmithing, ceramics and much more.

From the Small Animals Barn to the Horse Barn to our big summer garden, daily ranch life & chores are at the center of the Camp Trinity program. Campers can help feed chickens, goats, and horses, collect eggs, gather produce from our garden beds, or spend time in the Gates Gables kitchen turning that produce into fresh salads for lunch and baking bread to share with the rest of camp. The Bar 717 is a working ranch year-round, and we’re incredibly lucky to be able to enjoy fresh food that we grow and make right here at home. Tending to the plants and animals that feed us helps us stay connected to the land we live on and to our ranch community, and involving campers in that experience is really at the heart of our “live, work, play” philosophy.

This past weekend, we hosted our 2026 Alumni Weekend — it was a fantastic group and a wonderful way to kick off our summer season.

We enjoyed some delicious meals together, shared favorite camp memories, played music under the apple trees and around the campfire, made beautiful silkscreened shirts, spent time at the river, and held both a Vespers and a camp dance. Some of our alumni also helped out with ranch projects: moving hay in the barn as well as cleaning and organizing tack (thank you all!).

Alumni Weekend is a really special opportunity for folks from different camp eras to connect through a shared love of the ranch. This year our group consisted of campers from the 1960s-70s and as recently as 2022; we also had many staff members from across the decades. We loved hearing everyone’s stories and reflections on how their experiences here have continued to impact their life beyond camp; it made us feel incredibly grateful for the strength and longevity of this community.

Hiking, backpacking, and camping are core features of the Camp Trinity experience, from short overnights on the ranch to multi-day backpacking trips in the Trinity Alps. Backpacking allows campers to be truly immersed in the outdoors, sleeping under the stars, cooking outside, and watching the sun rise and set each day. These shared experiences build new skills and form strong bonds between campers — and we think it’s just plain good fun!

In this short video, get a glimpse into what a backpacking trip at camp is like, from a short hike across the suspension bridge to the clear lakes and alpine peaks of the Trinity Alps.

Meet the final member of our leadership team: our Assistant Director of Community & Connection, Sierra Macdonald! Sierra joined the team in 2025 after several years spent working in agriculture, hospitality, and outdoor education.

In Sierra’s words: “I was lucky enough to grow up spending a lot of time outdoors in the mountains of Northern California, so there’s a lot about Camp that reminds me of my childhood: searching for interesting rocks at the creek, the smell of sunscreen on a hot day, watching the stars come out at night, or listening to the sound of the wind in the pines at Inspiration Point. But I think I feel closest to my childhood self when I’m at the barn. I was a horse-crazy kid and never grew out of it; it’s been my most enduring passion in life since before I can remember! Spending time with the horses — even just grooming them or helping with morning chores — is when I feel the most peaceful, and the most like myself. Getting to teach campers about horses during lessons or on trail rides is one of the best parts of my job, and I always hope they find as much joy in it as I do.”

Located just down the hill from Main Camp, our horse barn is always a hub of activity: lessons taking place in the arenas, trail rides headed out onto the rest of the ranch, horses being fed, groomed, and bathed, and campers spending time learning about our equine residents. Our horsemanship program is a long-standing part of the Camp Trinity experience, and aims to introduce campers to the joy, adventure, and connection that horses offer while teaching them real equestrian skills.

Introducing the next member of our team: our Assistant Director of Staff & Programs, Clara Daikh! Clara first came to the Bar 717 as a 9-year-old camper, and later joined the staff as a member of the kitchen crew, a counselor, the CILT Director, and the Program Manager prior to her current role.

In Clara’s words: “My inner kid is most alive at Camp when I’m sitting with my feet in Hayfork Creek searching for cool rocks, discovering wildflowers, or having gleeful, neighborly conversations with the Dipper, Eagles, or other birds that also like to play by the river. I also feel childlike and free when I’m curled over a pottery wheel, lost in the playful mess of creation, and unaware of time… I love the feeling of clay slipping through my fingers, the laugh of a splendid failure, and the delayed discovery that I am covered head to toe in clay goo!”

Meet our Director, Emma Bundy! Emma first came to the ranch as a nine-year-old camper, and spent four summers working as a counselor prior to her current Director role.

In Emma’s words: “One of my favorite camp memories is from my very first morning on the ranch. I woke up early and walked down from my platform to Friendship Hill, where three foals were grazing — Surprise, Ceniza, and Burlie. As soon as I saw them, my worries about being away from home melted away and I knew I’d be okay. I spent practically every day in the barn during my two weeks of Camp, and Burlie grew to be a trusted trail partner for the next 25 years. If you visit Camp today, you can still say hi to Ceniza, who is retired on Barn Hill.”
