Falkville Elementary School's 4th grade students celebrated Earth Day at The Flint Creek Wetland Mitigation Bank on April 30th. Ms. Kelly facilitated the event which included walking the nature trails to learn about different species of trees, The Wetland in a Bag Presentation, a chalk art contest, a wagon ride, and catching invertebrates with nets in vernal pools to determine water quality. These students from Ms. Kyker, Ms. Lewis, and Mr. Tucker's classes also enjoyed other recreational activities and a pizza lunch, all while learning about the value of our wetlands in Morgan County.

On May 13, Ms. Kelly visited 3 classes of 5th graders at Falkville Elementary School to educate them about the food chain and food web. Students learned about primary producers, primary consumers, secondary consumers, tertiary consumers, and apex predators through two games demonstrating the flow of matter and energy through an ecosystem.

On May 22nd, Amy and Kelly presented ribbons and monetary prizes to winners of the 2026 Stewardship Poster Contest during the Award Ceremony at Saint Ann Catholic School. 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners received prizes of $100, $75 and $50 respectively. Mrs. Ogle, kindergarten teacher, and Mrs. Pattie Brown, 4th and 5th grade teacher, received $100 incentive awards to go towards classroom supplies. This year's theme was "Soil. Where It All Begins".

The Second Annual North Alabama Native Plant Symposium is set for Saturday, May 30, and Sunday, May 31, in Huntsville, Alabama. This weekend-long event will explore how native plants can be thoughtfully integrated into landscapes to create beauty while supporting healthy ecosystems.

Designed for horticultural professionals, conservationists, and home gardeners, the symposium will focus on conservation in horticultural landscapes, drawing inspiration from natural habitats and current land management research. Attendees will hear from two keynote speakers and participate in sessions led by botanists, ecologists, and landscape professionals, all centered on Alabama’s native plants and ecological landscaping.

On Sunday, participants can also choose from nine botanical excursion options to experience native plants in action.
