Our Council 400 retirees celebrated in style today at their annual picnic! We’re always grateful to have our busy elected officials stop by, say hi and answer some questions. Thank you to Senator Richard Blumenthal, Office of Lt. Governor Susan Bysiewicz, and Rep. Bill Heffernan for all coming by.

It’s a special day at the Union Hall when we get to celebrate the birthday of our Council 400 Membership Co-Chair, Tom Welch. Tom has signed up THOUSANDS of state retirees to CSEA over the years as co-chair. He comes in every single week to call retirees and let them know what’s at stake and how to stand together with a collective voice to preserve our 5 pillars of retirement: Social Security, Medicare, State Retiree Health, Pension and Medicaid/ Long term care.

Happy birthday Tom, and thank you for all you do for state retirees!

Sixty-two CSEA children and grandchildren were awarded $1,000 scholarships tonight at the Union Hall. McCusker Scholarship night is one of the best days at CSEA and reminds us all how generous our members, chapters and councils truly are.

This year we were honored to be joined by House Speaker Matt Ritter and State Representative Maryam Khan who kicked off tonight’s program.

Congratulations to all of the recipients tonight, and best of luck at school in the Fall!

Before schools closed for the summer, CSEA’s Hamden ACES paraeducator chapter gave Governor Ned Lamont a firsthand look at what our members do every day to support students, families and school communities.

The visit was part of a Walk-A-Day experience hosted by ACES members, where the Governor had the opportunity to see paraeducators at work inside the school building, hear directly from members and better understand the real responsibilities that too often get overlooked when decisions are made about school funding and wages.

Straight from Capitol Hill 🇺🇸 CSEA P4 Council headed to Washington, D.C. for the 2026 NASHTU Conference, standing shoulder-to-shoulder with transportation unions from across the country to fight for the workers who keep our roads, bridges, and infrastructure safe.

We met with lawmakers. We made the case against wasteful outsourcing. We reminded Congress that public infrastructure runs on public workers — not the lowest bidder.
