The officer pictured represents one of more than 150+ officers who transferred or resigned following Connecticut’s police accountability bill. Yet no one has been held accountable for the loss of these experienced personnel or the ongoing attrition fueled by anti-police rhetoric.
The next wave of departures is expected once the current contract expires, with no meaningful improvements in sight. With Mayor Arunan Arulampalam’s continued support for small but vocal anti-police groups, the situation is only going to get worse.
If city leaders genuinely believe that an eight-hour class will be the catalyst for positive change, perhaps they should start accepting bids on the Bulkeley Bridge.
