What does it mean to prepare someone for ministry and life?

It means understanding that the two are connected.

Studying the Bible is about more than learning what Scripture says. It’s about allowing what we learn to shape the way we live. How we treat our families, how we respond when life gets difficult, how we handle our responsibilities, how we care for others, and how we make decisions all reflect what we believe.

As we grow in our understanding of God’s Word, we have opportunities to put it into practice in our everyday lives. We learn to lead with humility, serve with compassion, act with integrity, and care for the people around us.

And those same lessons shape the way we serve others. A person who is learning to live out their faith at home, at work, and in their community is also growing in their ability to minister to the people around them.

As we put God’s Word into practice in our own lives, we become better equipped to encourage others, serve our communities, and share what we’ve learned with the people around us.

When everyone around you is heading in one direction, how do you know if it’s the right one?

Rev. Paul Johansson shares an illustration of several boats crossing the ocean. While some rely on their own judgment to choose a direction, one boat uses the North Star as a fixed point to guide its course.

Just as the North Star gives the boat a reliable point of reference, God’s unchanging principles give us direction for our own lives. Our feelings and the opinions of those around us can change and lead us astray, but God’s principles provide a steady foundation for making decisions, even when the world around us is heading in a different direction.

How Can We Put What We Learn from the Bible into Practice?

Studying the Bible is an important part of growing in our faith, but learning Scripture is only the beginning. God’s Word is meant to shape how we live, how we treat others, and how we respond to the world around us.

Here are a few ways to put what we learn into action:

📖 Apply it to your daily decisions — Think about how Scripture can guide the choices you make at home, at work, and in your relationships.

❤️ Practice what you learn — If you’re studying patience, practice it when a situation frustrates you. If you’re learning about forgiveness, consider where you may need to extend it.

🤝 Look for ways to serve others — Put lessons about love and compassion into action by helping a neighbor, caring for someone in need, or encouraging someone who is struggling.

👨‍👩‍👧 Share what you learn — Talk about Scripture with your family, encourage a friend, or help someone else understand what God’s Word teaches.

🌱 Make time for reflection— After studying, ask yourself: What did I learn about God? What does this teach me about how I should live? Is there something I need to change or do differently?

Studying the Bible isn't just about how much we know. It's about how that knowledge shapes our lives and helps us serve others. As we put God's Word into practice, what we learn can make a difference in our homes, churches, and communities.

There are certain passages of Scripture that every leader should know—not because they give us a formula for leadership, but because they remind us what kind of people we are called to be.

Here are three worth keeping close:

1. Micah 6:8 — What does God actually ask of us?
“Do justice, love mercy, and walk humbly with your God.”

2. Matthew 22:37–39 — What does it look like to live out the heart of Jesus?
Love God with all that you are, and love your neighbor as yourself.

3. 2 Timothy 3:16–17 — What is Scripture for?
It teaches, corrects, trains, and equips us to live well.

These are simple reminders, but they reach into almost every part of leadership: how we walk with God, how we treat people, and how we allow His Word to shape the way we live and lead.

When ancient sailors crossed the ocean, they used the North Star to guide their way. Because it stayed in a fixed position, they could rely on it to keep them on course.

Our lives need a steady point of reference, too. Culture and society change their standards over time, but the Bible provides godly principles that have stood the test of time. When we look beyond ourselves and the world around us to find direction in God’s Word, we have a foundation to guide our decisions and help us navigate life’s challenges.

The world changes, but God never does.

We live in a world where truth is often treated as relative, shaped by culture, circumstances, or personal opinions. But as followers of Christ, we know that certain things never change.

What is right or wrong before God remains the same, no matter what culture, country, or church we find ourselves in. We serve an unchanging God, and that gives us confidence in His love for us. We never have to wonder if His love for us has changed from one day to the next.

Even as times and cultures change, we can remain consistent with biblical principles by establishing a fixed point of reference.

When the world around us shifts, God remains the same.

You can learn a lot by sitting in a classroom. But some things can only be learned by doing. Ministry is one of them.

You can study how to lead a Bible study, encourage someone who is struggling, care for a family, or serve your church. But eventually, what you’ve learned has to meet real people and real situations.

You sit with someone who needs encouragement. You open the Bible with someone who has questions. You step in to help a family. You serve when there’s a need. And suddenly, what you’ve been learning isn’t just information anymore. You’re figuring out what it looks like to live it out.

Maybe that’s something worth remembering. We don’t have to wait until we know everything before we start serving. We can start with what we know, be willing to learn along the way, and let God use us right where we are.

What does it really mean to be “good”?

In a world where values and moral standards continue to shift, Christians need more than stories or opinions to guide the way they live. We need a strong foundation in the Word of God.

Biblical Ethics helps us look beyond the stories of Scripture to understand the principles God has given us for everyday life. Rather than allowing society to define what is right and wrong, we can look to God’s Word and be led by His Spirit.

That is the foundation of Biblical Ethics: learning to live according to God’s way.

At N2NCU, we believe biblical education should do more than give someone information. It should change the way they live and equip them to make a difference.

Head: We bring biblical knowledge to people who didn't have access to it before. We help students understand Scripture, develop their theology, and grow in their knowledge of God.

Heart: As people encounter God's Word, it begins to change the way they think, lead, see themselves, and see the people around them.

Hands: When people have biblical knowledge and their hearts are being transformed, they're equipped to do something with what they've learned. They can teach, disciple, lead, serve their churches and communities, and pour what they've learned into someone else.

We don't want to simply give people more knowledge. We want to see God's Word transform hearts and equip people to put what they've learned into action.
