Join the Hamtramck Drug Free Community Coalition (HDFCC), a program of the Piast Institute, for its 17th Annual Hamtramck Health Hike. This fun-filled community event promoting health and wellness will take place on Saturday, May 16, 2026, from 9:30 a.m. until noon.

Led by this year's Grand Marshal, Michael Young, a long-standing and dedicated member of the Hamtramck Fire Department, this year’s hike highlights the strength and spirit of community leadership in Hamtramck.

The Hamtramck Health Hike invites residents of all ages to come together for a morning of outdoor activity and enjoyment. Rain or shine, participants will take on the 5K course through city streets, beginning and ending at Zussman Park, in front of Hamtramck City Hall. Participants can run, jog, or walk the course at their own pace. The 5K will be officially timed, and participants will be able to look up their bib number online to view race results and compare times within their age group.

As an added incentive, the first 400 people to register and attend will receive free giveaways, so be sure to sign up early and secure your spot. Following the hike, participants are encouraged to stay and enjoy activities at the park while learning more about healthy, drug-free lifestyles. There will also be an opportunity for attendees to learn how to save a life. Participants can receive on-site training in the use of Naloxone (commonly known as Narcan), a life-saving medication that can reverse opioid overdoses. Those who complete the training will receive a free naloxone kit to take home, empowering community members with the knowledge and tools to respond in an emergency.

Registration is free and can be completed online at: http://tinyurl.com/HealthHike

For questions or additional information, contact Shannon Schafer, Race Director, at mailto:[email protected] or visit HamtramckDrugFree.com. Follow along on social media via Facebook and Instagram.

From Polish Institute of Culture & Research:

For decades, each Sunday at 9:00 AM, the Polish Radio Mass from Orchard Lake has reached into homes, hospital rooms, and quiet spaces across Metro Detroit. It has accompanied those who cannot leave their homes, those on the road, and those who simply long to hear the beauty of the Mass in their native language.

This is more than a broadcast. It is a connection to faith, to heritage, and to one another.

Today, that connection needs your voice.

On behalf of the St. John Paul II Liturgical Center, Joseph Majcher is conducting an URGENT SURVEY to better understand how many listeners tune in each week to the Polish Radio Mass on WNZK 690 AM.

Because radio does not provide clear listener data, the future of this decades-long service now depends on something simple, but essential: your response.

If you listen, or know someone who does, please take a moment to reach out.

Tell us:

Do you listen to the Polish Radio Mass?

Why do you rely on the radio broadcast? (no internet, driving, accessibility, etc.)
