The Third Circuit Court welcomed approximately 20–30 high school students from Wayne State University Law School’s Pathway Programming and Community Education Outreach program on August 11.

Students had the opportunity to observe proceedings in the Criminal and Family – Juvenile Divisions and gain firsthand insight into the judicial process and the work of the Court.

Thank you to Hon. Mary Beth Hathaway, Referee Brandi Taylor and the Criminal and Family – Juvenile teams for welcoming the students and providing this valuable in-court learning experience.

Michigan House Bill No. 4750 was just signed into law, which now preserves federal and state benefits, including Social Security, Department of Veterans Affairs, & Supplemental Security Income, for foster youth.

32 states have now ended the “orphan tax.” ACF will continue working with governors, state legislatures, child welfare agencies, and advocates to ensure every foster youth receives their benefits intended to provide them with financial security.

Showing up for a child in foster care doesn't look the same every week.

Sometimes it's a courtroom. Sometimes it's a school meeting or a doctor's appointment. Sometimes it's just being the one consistent adult who calls to check in.

CASA volunteers commit to one child at a time — and every volunteer completes at least 30 hours of training before taking a case. One child. One advocate. All in.

Could that be you? michigancasa.org/volunteer
