This year’s conference theme for the Michigan Justice for Children Conference — Voices for Every Child, Actions for Every Future — feels especially meaningful.

I’m excited to present “Beyond Goodbye: Closing the Gaps for Youth in Foster Care” alongside Gabriella Mallory social worker and philanthropist.

Together, we’ll explore how social workers, attorneys, educators, and community partners can better support youth ages 14+ as they prepare for life beyond foster care. From housing and education to financial literacy, mental health, and lasting adult connections, we’ll discuss what it takes to build meaningful pathways to stability and success.

Drawing on professional expertise, community partnerships, and youth-informed perspectives, this session will focus on practical strategies and resources that help ensure young people leave care with support, connection, and opportunity.

Looking forward to joining the conversation and learning alongside others committed to creating better futures for youth.

They’ve beat the odds!

Twins Cherry and Sherry Wilmore spent 12 years in foster care before building a future rooted in resilience, love, and the strong foundation of the families who helped raise them.
