The Detroit Hamtramck Coalition for Advancing Healthy Environments is building a healthier future through environmental justice, community power, clean air, healthy neighborhoods, and meaningful action.

We’re especially interested in people who bring strengths in:

As Detroit rebuilds from the largest municipal bankruptcy in history, major construction has reshaped the city: the first new skyscraper in 50 years, new hotels and sports complexes, and the renovation of Michigan Central Station, which had sat empty for decades while owned by the billionaire Moroun family. To meet the demand, at least three new concrete facilities have opened in the city since 2019. One of these concrete plants was erected in a neighborhood called Cadillac Heights. Residents there say the plant creates clouds of dust, makes noise in the early hours of the day and late into the night, and pierces industrial lights through the area. "WE WON! 🎉 Detroit Hamtramck said NO to Kronos and the City Planning Commissioners listened. The land is getting downzoned. This is what happens when a community shows up: public comment, prayers, good vibes, and refusing to back down. Next up: ordinance draft, legal review, and City Council votes in 2027. We're not done yet. "

You have another chance to support Kronos downzoning from M4 to M2 or SD2 and stop expansion of concrete dust!

Thank you to all the folks who came out in person and stayed on zoom/phone calls to give public comment on September 17.

We have an opportunity to attend again on October 1 and lift up our voices. bit.ly/Detroit-CPC-10-1

At the September 17 meeting, KRONOS sent about 30 neighbors who called for KRONOS to keep their M4 heavy industrial zoning. They claimed the company has invested in jobs and beautified the community and are good neighbors.
