Basketball With A Bigger Purpose. 🏀💙

Walk With Ward Foundation had an AMAZING time participating in the Stop the Gun Violence Basketball Game with BagzForTheKids!

Yes, there was basketball.

Yes, there was competition.

And you already know there was plenty of trash talking, laughter, and good energy. 😂🏀

But the real win happened beyond the scoreboard.

It was seeing our young people surrounded by community.

It was watching families laugh together.

It was creating a space where our youth could compete, connect, build relationships, and simply BE KIDS.

Because violence prevention isn’t only about what we tell young people not to do.

It’s also about giving them something positive to belong to.

Mentorship matters.

Exposure matters.

Safe spaces matter.

Positive relationships matter.

And COMMUNITY matters.

Every time organizations come together to pour into our youth, we’re showing them that there are adults willing to show up, walk beside them, and invest in their future.

A huge THANK YOU to BagzForTheKids for allowing Walk With Ward Foundation to be part of such a meaningful event and for continuing to create opportunities that bring our community together around a cause that affects far too many families.

We laughed.

We competed.

We connected.

We made memories.

And most importantly…

WE SHOWED UP FOR OUR YOUTH.

That’s a win we’ll take every single time. 💙🏀

The game may be over, but the mission continues.

Thank God for the opportunity, protection, your ability, and another chance to compete.

🍽️ EAT.
Fuel your body. You can’t expect championship-level performance from an empty tank.

🧠 LOCK IN.
Whatever happened before the game can wait. Whatever needs to happen afterward can wait.

Right now, it’s GAME TIME.

Trust your training.
Trust your preparation.
Trust your teammates.
Trust yourself.

Don’t play scared of making mistakes.

PLAY TO MAKE AN IMPACT.

Pray.
Fuel.
Focus.
Execute.

And when that whistle blows…

✨ YOU HELPED US SELL OUT OUR INAUGURAL MOCHA GALA EXPERIENCE! ✨

A vision that started with one simple idea, to end the summer by giving our campers an opportunity to dress up, walk the red carpet, and be celebrated, became a room FILLED with love, laughter, families, community leaders, partners, and people who believe in our youth.

For some of our young people, it was their first professional fitting.

Their first formal gala.

Their first red carpet experience.

Their moment to hear their names called, receive recognition, and know that an entire room was there to celebrate THEM.

THANK YOU🤎

But here’s what we don’t want to happen:

We don’t want the investment to end because summer did.

The camp trips may be over.
The summer field experiences may be finished.
The gala lights may be off.

But the work continues.

Our young people still need safe spaces.

They still need mentors.

They still need transportation.

They still need leadership development, financial literacy, workforce preparation, educational enrichment, career exposure, and opportunities to discover what’s possible beyond the environments they see every day.

So as we close one chapter, we’re inviting our community to help us write the next one.

This Saturday, we aren't simply hosting a gala.

We're showing our young people what it looks like when an entire community shows up for them.

After an incredible summer of mentorship, leadership development, financial literacy, entrepreneurship, therapeutic recreation, agriculture, fishing, career exposure, field experiences, and so much more, our We Back Outside Summer Enrichment Camp is coming to a close.

And we're closing it with intention.

On Saturday, August 22, Walk With Ward Foundation will roll out the red carpet for our campers at our First Annual Mocha Gala: Rooted in Purpose. Growing in Possibility.

For some of our youth, this will be their first formal gala, first professional fitting, and first opportunity to be formally recognized and celebrated for their accomplishments.

Parents, what if your child’s afterschool hours could become some of the most valuable hours of their week?

Walk With Ward Foundation is excited to introduce the LEAD • GROW • LAUNCH Afterschool Leadership & Workforce Development Academy for the 2026–2027 school year!

This is more than afterschool care. We’re creating a space where young people receive support, discover their strengths, develop real-world skills, explore future careers, and build the confidence to become tomorrow’s leaders.

🚀 LEAD: Leadership • Communication • Mentorship
🌱 GROW: Confidence • Resilience • STEM • Life Skills
🎯 LAUNCH: Career Exploration • Financial Literacy • Entrepreneurship • Workforce Readiness

Students will experience academic support, mentorship, STEM, financial literacy, entrepreneurship, leadership development, career exploration, therapeutic recreation, workforce readiness, and hands-on experiential learning.

We want our students to leave knowing more than how to complete an assignment. We want them learning how to communicate, lead, manage money, explore careers, solve problems, work with others, develop ideas, and prepare for what comes next.

A HUGE shoutout to everyone who came out and supported our campers during yesterday’s Fish Fry & Lemonade Fundraiser!

Because of your generosity, our youth aren’t just raising money, they’re learning the value of hard work, entrepreneurship, teamwork, customer service, financial responsibility, and giving back to their community. Every meal purchased and every lemonade sold is helping them move one step closer to reaching their fundraising goal by the end of July!

People see fishing… but what we’re really doing is healing. 🎣🌿

Our Therapeutic Recreation Program has never been “just about fishing.” It’s about restoring people mentally, emotionally, physically, and spiritually through structure, nature, mentorship, and meaningful connection.

In today’s world, so many children and families are overstimulated, overwhelmed, emotionally exhausted, and disconnected from themselves, from each other, and from nature. What many don’t realize is that nature itself has a direct impact on the brain and nervous system.

When youth spend time outdoors:
🌿 Stress hormones begin to decrease
🌿 Anxiety levels can lower
🌿 Breathing naturally slows down
🌿 Focus and emotional regulation improve
🌿 The nervous system begins to reset
🌿 Confidence and self-awareness increase

Fishing teaches patience.
Nature teaches presence.
Structure teaches discipline.
Teamwork teaches communication.
Stillness teaches emotional intelligence.

Through our program, youth are learning far more than recreational activities. They’re learning:
💡 Emotional regulation
💡 Leadership and accountability
💡 Conflict resolution
💡 Teamwork and communication
💡 Survival and life skills
💡 Entrepreneurship and economic mobility
💡 Family engagement and healthy bonding
