We’re excited to welcome our 2026 Impact Internship student, Kyra Lung from Cornell University, to the Common Ground Collective team this summer! 😎

A returning Hawaiʻi girl, Kyra will be working alongside our founder to help with community outreach for the Makaʻāinana Project, a vision for a community-centered Co-Op Food Hub and Grocery Store designed to strengthen food security and expand economic opportunity on Maui.

The proposed Makaʻāinana Market would serve as a centralized hub bringing together local farmers, food producers, and community resources in one shared space, helping address critical infrastructure gaps while creating stronger pathways for local products to reach our community.

We are beyond excited to have Kyra join us this summer as we continue building toward a more sustainable, resilient future for Hawaiʻi. Welcome to the team, Kyra! 🌺🌿

✨Sharing a beautiful and inspiring moment…
A while back, we donated fruit to Princess School in Lahaina, and today we received the sweetest surprise of handwritten thank you cards from the students. 🥹💛

The teacher who dropped off the letters from shared some of the fun things the students got to do with the fruit. They learned about exotic fruits they had never seen before, like white sapote, and made fresh banana smoothies. They even added sweet potato leaves into the smoothies 😱 FUN FACT you can totally eat sweet potato leaves! 🌱And they’re super nutritious!

Moments like this are such a beautiful reminder that a little bit goes a long way. What started as a simple fruit donation turned into learning opportunities, new experiences, healthy snacks, and joyful memories for these keiki.

And while these thank you cards came to us for donating, they really belong to all of YOU!… The farmers, landowners, backyard growers, fruit donors, volunteers, and community members who help make these moments possible. 🙏

Every mango picked, every banana donated, and every “small” contribution adds up to something much bigger… a stronger, healthier, more connected community. So Mahalo to all the amazing “farmers” out there helping us nourish Maui’s keiki and community. 🌱🍌🥭

Some of our favorite thank you card messages:
🌺 “Thank you for being so kind.”
🌺 “Dear people who gave us food, thank you for giving us food. We are very grateful for our food.”
🌺”Thank you gardeners for taking care of our ʻāina and being respectful”
🌺 “Thank you so much for donating food to us it was so delicious. Thank you so much for the plants. I love plants.”
🌺 “Thank you for fruits and veggies - the 5th graders”
