Southern Tuolumne County Historical Society & Family History Center Amassing, storing and sharing historical and genealogical information about people and places in Southern Tuolumne County, California

On the third floor of the Groveland Yosemite Gateway Museum you will find the History Resource Center (HRC) dedicated to collecting the genealogy and history of the area "south of the river". The area south of the Tuolumne River includes Groveland, Big Oak Flat, Buck Meadows, Greeley Hill and Chinese Camp. Volunteers collect and organize information from old newspapers, books, obituaries and other

sources to build a database of information which preserves the history of individuals and the communities "south of the river". Another feature of the HRC is the Genealogy Workshop held the 4th Friday of each month (Except November & December) from 1pm to 3pm. Volunteers are available to help with genealogy projects whether you are a beginner or more advanced in your research. The HRC has access to both free and subscription internet research sites to help with your research. If you'd like to know more about our work to preserve our history or you would like to know more about the Genealogy Workshop please visit our Open House on Saturday, November 7 from 10am-1pm.

WE'RE IN FOR A TREAT! Friday, Nov 7, 7 p.m., Resilience Center
The latest event in the STCHS monthly speakers' program will be a presentation by Ken Yager from Mariposa. A well-known climber in Yosemite (with more than 60 ascents of El Capitan), Ken will share his unique perspective on Yosemite, the early days of climbing in the Park, Sierra nature, and our responsibility to help keep it for future generations. He was key in founding the Yosemite Climbing Museum and Yosemite Facelift (a clean-up campaign also brought to Groveland this fall). A 2014 winner of the Brower Conservation Award, Ken is certain to be an entertaining, informative and inspirational speaker.

Southern Tuolumne County Historical Society & Family History Center and Groveland Yosemite Gateway Museum want to thank our Tuolumne County Supervisor Steve Griefer who was our Celebrity Chef at the Labor Day BBQ - Fundraising event. Everyone has commented how this was the tastiest Tri-Tip ever! So thank you Mr. Griefer. And many thanks to MarVal for providing and marinating the beef. Cheers to the whole community. It was a wonderful turn out and all the kids had a great time.

NEW SPEAKER EVENT AUGUST 1 - HETCH HETCHY
Ever wonder about those big pipes going down the Priest Grade hill into Moccasin? Answer your questions on Friday, Aug 1, at 7 p.m. at the Resilience Center!
STCHS is pleased to have Blake Rothfuss, the Chief Engineer in Moccasin, come to speak on "Hetch Hetchy: The First Hundred Years." It should be a very informative and interesting discussion with someone who really knows what he's talking about.
