Hello, my name is Don Ackerman, and I’m grateful to be part of The Simple Room team.
Several years ago, I had the privilege of working here alongside John Heston, and it’s a blessing to return in this season. Throughout my career, including my time with ServiceMaster and BJC Healthcare, I’ve served in leadership roles focused on training, supporting teams, and creating strong, well-prepared environments.

I’ve always had a heart for investing in young people. My wife and I have had the opportunity to foster several teenage boys over the years, which has been incredibly meaningful to us.

I also enjoy playing the guitar and love being able to teach and connect with students through music at The Simple Room. ~ Don Ackerman

This full-time role is perfect for someone who has a heart for investing in young people, a strong Christian faith, and a passion for leading programs that make a lasting impact. From overseeing daily programming to building relationships with students, volunteers, and the community, this position plays a vital role in carrying out our mission of sharing Jesus’s love.

We’re so excited to welcome Janna Smith as our new Programming & Ministry Lead at The Simple Room! Join us in giving her a warm welcome as she steps into this role of investing in lives and sharing Jesus’s love.

I’m beyond excited to be joining the simple team in helping the kids in our community. I’ve been a resident of Greenville for around 16 years. In that time I’ve seen the simple room grow and become a beacon of hope and stability for so many kids and their families. I’m humbled to get to walk with the youth at the simple room. To be able to meet them where they are and to encourage them to become who Gods created them to be. Plus have some fun along the way. ~ Janna Smith
