Today, June 20th, is National American Bald Eagle Day and while we here at the Owl Creek Foundation think Eagles are not quite as cool as Owls, they are pretty cool and the Bald Eagle is, after all, our National Bird ... so Happy National American Bald Eagle Day, folks, and we hope you'll enjoy this video

We're back to posting unique holidays, interesting celebrations, and days of recognition that resonate with our OCF message. And here's one of those: World Sauntering Day. Yes, today, June 19th, is World Sauntering Day. The holiday was originally created in 1979 by W.T. Rabe as a response to the growing popularity of jogging, and over the years has taken on a larger meaning, encouraging people to slow down in general, to savor life, and truly appreciate the world around them. We love that.

Today (May 25th) is "National Wine Day". Yesterday (May 24th) was "International Women’s Day for Peace and Disarmament" and Tuesday (May 23rd) was "National Lucky Penny Day". Now that's quite a range of celebrations.

National Wine Day celebrates the diversity of wine offerings — with highly-respected vintages shipping from Chile, South Africa, Australia, and the U.S.

We hope you've all been enjoying the unique May celebrations and holidays we've been regularly featuring here on our Owl Creek Foundation FB page since the beginning of this month. In case you haven't had a chance to keep up with the conversations that have evolved around those posts, here's a few pics (from clothespin holders to campfires to candles and more) that might pique your interest. If so, we invite you to check them out and join in the conversations ... plus if all goes well, we plan to use these celebrations in a future Owl Creek project too!

Yesterday (May 20th) was "World Bee Day" ... gotta love those little pollinators that also give us honey! 🐝 Today (May 21st) was "East More Fruits and Vegetables Day" which is a good idea any day of the year, 🍎🥦 and tomorrow (May 22nd) is Sherlock Holmes Day ... and whooo doesn't love a good mystery to solve, eh?! https://www.daysoftheyear.com/days/sherlock-holmes-day/ #:~:text=Dig%20out%20a%20book%2C%20fire,portrayed%20character%20in%20film%20history.

Yesterday (May 18th) was "National Notebook Day", an annual celebration observed on the third Thursday of May. On National Notebook Day people of all ages are encouraged to take note of their thoughts and memories, and recognize the value of journaling in their lives. But if you missed out on doing so yesterday, not too worry ... there's no time like the present to give journaling a start! Today (May 19th) is "National Bike to Work Day" which annually takes place on the third Friday in May. The day is celebrated both as a reminder of the health benefits of bicycling to work (and possibly to begin a habit of doing so, weather permitting) and also to encourage bicyclers and drivers to share the road safely. If you didn't give it a go today ... maybe this coming Monday will be a good day to give riding your bike to work a try as the whole month of May is National Bike Month!

Today (May 17th) is "National Mushroom Hunting Day". Over the years, we featured some fascinating articles in the Owl Creek Gazette on mushroom hunting, preparing, eating, even discussing their purported health benefits. So here's to those tasty fungi and the folks who find them!

It’s National Mushroom Hunting Day. If you’re planning on going, make sure you are armed with a field guide.

Today (May 16th) is National Love a Tree Day honoring the irreplaceable role trees play in our iives ... from providing fresh air and shade, to serving as a source of food, fuel, and housing, not to mention their sheer beauty ... what's not to love (and to be thankful for} when it comes to trees?!!! And to top things off, today is also OCF Board Member Ashley Stockamp-Schisler's birthday ... so, Happy Birthday, Ashley! :-)
