What an inspiring Rotary meeting! 🌍

We were honored to welcome Dr. Jean Creasey and Mimi Simmons from the 49er club, who shared their recent service trip to Uganda in partnership with the Kellerman Foundation.

From celebrating the opening of a new dental and vision clinic serving over 500,000 people, to supporting education, healthcare, and economic development initiatives for local communities and the Batwa people, their stories demonstrated the incredible impact of service above self.

A special highlight was seeing how Rotary partnerships helped grow dental care access from just one chair to 11, restoring smiles, confidence, and dignity for thousands.

Thank you, Jean and Mimi, for sharing this remarkable journey and reminding us how Rotary changes lives around the world. 💙💛

Last week, we visited Robinson Enterprises and learned more about the critical role they play in supporting emergency response efforts across California.

From mobile incident command centers and office space trailers, to air traffic control units, refrigerated trailers, generators, fuel tanks, and more - Robinson ensures first responders have the resources they need to keep operations running smoothly.

It was eye-opening to see just how much coordination and logistics goes on behind the scenes during emergencies, and how vital Robinson Enterprises is to those efforts across the state.

A big thank you to the Hoffler family for the informative presentation. We truly appreciated your time and hospitality!

We are so glad we could honor our Interact Students at our Foundation Dinner last month.
They have completed more than 30 community service projects this year and are a strong example of service in action. Interactors today are the future Rotarians of tomorrow! 🙌🏼

Five Nevada Country Rotary Clubs used their annual foundation dinner to celebrate and recognize the youth leaders of Nevada Union High School’s Interact Club. The NU Interact Club is a student-led club dedicated to community service and the values of Rotary, under the guidance of Nevada Union acti...

Today's Rotary meeting featured an incredibly powerful and sobering presentation from Nevada
County Sheriff Shannan Moon and Undersheriff Sam Brown on the February 17th Castle Peak avalanche rescue and recovery mission. It is now the deadliest avalanche in California history.

They walked us through the timeline of the incident, the extreme conditions responders faced, and the complex, multi-agency effort required to safely recover the survivors and victims.

Thank you to Sheriff Moon, Undersheriff Brown, and the Nevada County Sheriff's Search & Rescue (which includes over 100 highly trained volunteers) for their courage, coordination, and commitment during an incredibly difficult mission.

A truly impactful and memorable presentation.👏🏼

Last week, we gathered at Community Roots to learn more about an organization doing incredible work in our community.

Community Roots is dedicated to nourishing Nevada County students with fresh, locally sourced, scratch-made meals - supporting not just student health, but local farms and a more sustainable food system.

Their impact is made possible through strong partnerships with organizations like Chef Ann Foundation and Sierra Harvest, along with collaboration across local school districts and campuses throughout Nevada County.

We’re grateful for the opportunity to learn more about their mission to foster healthy habits, support local agriculture, and help students thrive...one meal at a time. 🌱

Today, our club had the pleasure of hearing from author Jay Asher (Writer), best known for his bestselling young adult novel '13 Reasons Why,' which was later adapted into a popular series on Netflix.

Jay shared insights into his journey as a writer and the powerful impact storytelling can have—especially for young readers navigating complex emotional experiences.

His talk highlighted the importance of open conversations around mental health, themes that resonate deeply within both his writing and our communities. We’re grateful for the opportunity to hear firsthand how one story can spark dialogue, understanding, and meaningful change. 📚✏️

This past weekend, our President-Elect Lauren Engelking attended Far West PELS in San Jose, joining Rotary leaders from across the region for a weekend of learning, collaboration, and inspiration.

Lauren had the special opportunity to meet and speak with 2026-2027 Rotary International President, Olayinka Hakeem Babalola. She also met with future District Governor, Kurt Raffetto, as well as fellow Presidents-Elect from multiple districts.

We’re excited for Lauren to bring new knowledge and energy into the upcoming Rotary year!

Yesterday we heard from Cassia Dunham, a senior at NUHS, who shared her senior project - it’s an exciting one!

Cassia is trying to raise $46,000 for three driving simulators. These simulators will give students safe, structured practice behind the wheel, helping build confidence and real world skills – especially for students with autism, anxiety, or other learning challenges. Research shows simulators significantly improved driving performance and helps close a gap between new and experienced drivers.

Phase 2 of the project includes building a physical driving course on the district’s 80-acre ranch. Easyway driving school has already donated a training car and will help train instructors!

Join us at Cassia’s “Country Gala: Riding for the Future” on March 28 at the Grass Valley Elks Lodge! Tickets are $60. You can also support Cassia by donating auction items or helping spread the word. RidingForTheFuture.com

Let’s help “drive” this project forward! 🚘🙌🏼
