Our final Women’s History Month member spotlight is Sandy Terrell. Sandy has been a dedicated member of Soroptimist International for many years, serving in numerous leadership roles including Club President, Conference Coordinator, Federation Board of Directors member, and Governor. She attended her first conference in 1983 and was immediately impressed by how the Region operated and the passion of its members. From that moment on, she was hooked.

Even after retiring, Sandy has remained as active as she can, continuing to support the organization she loves. She says she stays in Soroptimist because of the commitment she made when she joined—not only to her club members, but also to the many friends she has met along the way through the various positions she has held. As Sandy puts it best, “Soroptimist is in my blood.”

Up next in our member spotlight is Kim Jones

Born and raised in Nevada County, Kim returned home to Penn Valley in 2020 after 12 years in the Bay Area. She has always been passionate about advocating for disadvantaged women and children, and since joining SIGV in 2022, she’s turned that passion into meaningful impact, supporting and uplifting those who need it most.

Behind the scenes, Kim plays a key role managing SIGV’s social media, website, and technology. She loves shining a light on the incredible work our club is doing and sharing those stories with the community.

When she’s not volunteering, you can find Kim out exploring with her 9-year-old daughter, who’s already an active participant in all things Soroptimist!

Bonnie originally joined Soroptimist International because she had some extra time and wanted to volunteer in her community. What she didn’t expect was to gain a family in the process. Today, she is passionate about helping women build confident, secure futures whether through mentorship, education, or homeownership. As a real estate professional and Soroptimist leader, she believes stability starts with knowledge and support. Being part of Soroptimist continually inspires her to grow, give back, and help create opportunities that remind women their goals, both financial and personal, are absolutely within reach.

Thank you Bonnie Resendes!

Debbi Sutton has proudly called Nevada County home for over 30 years, where she raised her five children and now enjoys spending time with her twelve grandchildren. A dedicated community member, she first joined Soroptimist International of Grass Valley in 2008. After stepping away for a time due to health challenges, she returned in 2023 with renewed commitment to the organization’s mission of empowering women and girls. Debbi is one of SIGV’s co-presidents and we are so grateful for her support and dedication to the club and our community.

Debbi works with the Healthy Babies Program through Child Advocates of Nevada County as an Administrative Assistant, Data Technician, and Family Resource Specialist, continuing her passion for supporting women and children. Outside of work and volunteering, Debbi enjoys gardening, growing her own food, and raising chickens for eggs as part of her commitment to self-reliance. She also loves camping and spending time with family—especially her growing crew of grandchildren.

Thank you Debbi Sutton!

This Thanksgiving, our hearts are full. 🧡
We asked our members what they’re most grateful for this year, and their answers were a beautiful reminder of what truly matters—family, community, support, hope, and the strength we find in one another.

To our members, volunteers, donors, and partners: thank you for being part of this community and for making our mission possible every day. Wishing you all a Thanksgiving filled with peace, connection, and gratitude.
