WHCM and The Grafton Public Library Partner with Aldrich Astronomical Society for An Evening Presentation and Stargazing Lawn Party

Where: Willard House & Clock Museum, 11 Willard Street, North Grafton, MA

For centuries, horology has measured humanity’s relationship with time. Today, that same spirit of precision and discovery guides a new era of space exploration.

Join NASA Solar System Ambassador M.J. Johnson for an inspiring look at the Artemis II mission — the first crewed journey beyond Earth orbit in more than 50 years. Explore the technology, systems, and decisions that make deep-space travel possible, and discover how Artemis II marks a pivotal moment in humanity’s next chapter among the stars.

This event is FREE, open to the public and appropriate for all ages.

Most people refer to this clock as a "grandfather clock." In period advertisements and receipts from the Willards and other clockmakers of the late 18th century, they are called "8-day clocks" or "tall clocks". How did such a change in nomenclature occur? Simply, two words: pop culture.

In 1876, Henry Clay Work wrote the song My Grandfather's Clock and it became huge success. The song was so popular that people called timepieces like the titular clock "grandfather clocks"!
