Along with our annual team Spring and Winter trainings, our training committee remains hard at work throughout the year with creating, planning and finely executing detailed events open to all members who would like to further sharpen their skills. Whether the topics are known or new…there is always something to learn and there is always camaraderie to be had. So far this year, members were invited to attend clinics involving 3rd class belaying, rescue preparedness and patient care, litter assembly and patient packaging and we had the wonderful opportunity to link up with the Sawyer River Group to have an in depth training about (and in) moving water. A huge shout out to our training committee for their continued dedication and efforts. We could not be where we are without you!

NH Fish & Game report:

“Injured Hiker Rescued from Huntington Ravine Trail

Sargent’s Purchase – On Saturday, August 22, 2026 at approximately 10:45 AM, NH Fish and Game was notified of an injured hiker on the Huntington Ravine Trail approximately ½ mile up from the Harvard Cabin. The caller reported that she had suffered a lower leg injury preventing her from being able to hike out without assistance. The hiker was identified as Sydney Cox, 30, of Rochester, NH.

Cox had been hiking up Huntington Ravine Trail with a hiking companion when she injured her lower leg in the boulder field at around 9:00 AM. Determined to make it out without calling for help, Cox crawled, hopped and shuffled approximately 4/10ths of a mile before it became too much to continue without assistance. She ultimatley made a 911 call for help.

A rescue response was initated and Conservation Officers and volunteers from Androscoggin Valley Search and Rescue (AVSAR) responded. Volunteers hiked up Tuckerman Ravine Trail to Huntington Ravine Trail, while Conservation Officers utilized ATVs to haul up rescue gear and a litter up the Sherburne Ski Trail.

While rescuers were responding, Cox didn’t stay where she was and wait. She continued crawling and hopping down the trail another 3/10ths of a mile before meeting up with rescuers. The progress she made reduced the carryout from approximately 1.25 miles to around .5 miles.

At 1:32 PM the first rescuers reached Cox. She was evaluated and had her injured leg placed into a vacuum splint then she was placed in a litter and carried approximately ½ mile down to the ATV. Once at the ATV, Cox was able to get out of the litter and was placed on the back of the ATV, behind a Conservation Officer and driven down to the bottom.
She arrived at the Pinkham Notch Visitor Center at 3:20 PM. She was assessed by EMS personnel from Gorham Ambulance, but ultimately refused transport via ambulance and instead was driven to a hospital by her hiking comanion.

Cox was an experienced hiker having completed 35 of the 48 4000 footers. She had all the necessary gear and equipment for a hike of this caliber and were were well prepared with the 10 essentials recommended by the Hike Safe program.” Thank you team!

“Thompson and Meserves Purchase, NH – On Sunday, August 9, 2026, personnel from multiple rescue crews teamed up to help carry an injured hiker to safety after she fell and sustained a leg injury.

At approximately 6:30 p.m., Cynthia Krum, 65, of South Portland, Maine, slipped and fell from a rock while traversing the Link Trail on the north side of Mt. Jefferson. As a result of the fall, Krum was left unable to walk. Her daughter ultimately made a 911 call for help following the accident.

Shortly before 7:00 p.m., New Hampshire Fish and Game Department Conservation Officers were notified of the incident. Krum was located 1.6 miles from the Caps Ridge Trailhead in rough terrain, so Conservation Officers called upon the assistance of volunteers from the Androscoggin Valley Search and Rescue Team (AVSAR) and Pemigewassett Valley Search and Rescue Team (Pemi) to assist in the carryout.

By 9:40 p.m., the first wave of rescuers arrived at Krum’s location. She was given first aid on scene and then packaged in a litter. Once packaged, the rescue team of 3 Conservation Officers and 34 volunteers began carrying Krum back to the Caps Ridge Trailhead.

At 1:47 a.m., on the morning of August 10, the rescue crew arrived safely with Krum at the Caps Ridge Trailhead. Krum was evaluated and subsequently taken by Twin Mountain Ambulance to Littleton Regional Hospital to seek treatment for her injuries.

New Hampshire Fish and Game would like to sincerely thank all the volunteers who routinely sacrifice their own time to help those in need in the woods and mountains of our state.” A phenomenal job well done and a huge ‘thank you’ to all who were involved Pemigewasset Valley Search and Rescue Team and for the continued dedication of our members!

NH Fish & Game report:

“Hiker Rescued from Gray K**b Trail

Low & Burbank’s Grant – On Thursday, August 6, 2026, NH Fish and Game Conservation Officers along with search and rescue volunteers from Andoscoggin Valley Search and Rescue (AVSAR) and Pemigewasset Valley Search and Rescue (PEMI SAR) carried out an injured hiker from the Gray K**b RMC cabin in Low & Burbank’s Grant.

The hiker identifed as, Daisy McCoy, 75, of Lyndon Center, VT had suffered an unknow leg injury the previous night while descending the Gray K**b Trail towards the cabin. Fortunately the Randolph Mountain Club (RMC) caretaker came upon her shortly after the injury. He returned to Gray K**b where he got a litter and enlisted the help of a couple other hikers and carried McCoy to the cabin. There she spent the night and a rescue response was initated in the morning.

McCoy had started her hike earlier that day by hiking up Castle Trail to Israel Ridge Path with her ultimate destination being the Perch lean to where she was hoping to spend the night. Finding it full, she then decided to hike down to Gray K**b.

All in all over 20 rescuers comprising of volunteers and conservation officers hiked up nearly 3 miles to Gray K**b shelter and secured McCoy in a litter. She was then carried down to the bottom via Lowe’s Path arriving road side at 1:22 PM. McCoy was transferred to the Gorham Ambuance and ultimately transported the Androscoggin Valley Hospital in Berlin. McCoy did possess a Hike Safe card.” Thank you team! along with Pemigewasset Valley Search and Rescue Team

NH Fish & Game report:

“Hiker Rescued from Tuckerman Ravine Trail

Sargent’s Purchase – On Tuesday, August 4, 2026, at approximately 3:00 PM, NH Fish and Game received a 911 call about an injured hiker on the Tuckerman Ravine Trail near the Tuckerman Junction approximately ½ mile from the summit of Mt. Washington. The hiker identified as Andrew Nelson, 18, of Topsfield, MA had suffered a lower leg injury and could not bear weight on the injured leg. A rescue response from NHFG Conservation Officers and Androscoggin Valley Search and Rescue responded to this incident.

Nelson was hiking with 8 other friends and while awaiting response from the rescue crew, he attempted to make his way back towards the summit. Nelson, with occasional assistance from his hiking companions, hopped, crawled and otherwise used sheer grit and determination to continue moving back up Tuckerman Ravine Trail towards the summit of Mt. Washington.

As rescue personnel arrived, they were transported up the Mt. Washington Auto Road to the summit and hiked down to the injured hiker.

Nelson made it .3 miles by the time the first rescuers arrived on scene. Once rescuers reached him a vacuum splint was placed on his injured lower leg and he was placed in the litter and carried the final .2 of a mile

At 5:55 PM, the rescue crew made it to the summit where Nelson was placed in a NHFG cruiser and transported down the Auto Road where he was then transferred to the Gorham Ambulance. Nelson ultimately denied transport to Androscoggin Valley Hospital in Berlin, but instead to seek treatment back at his home.“

“Missing Person Located in Gorham

Gorham – On Sunday, July 28, 2026 at approximately 10:00 AM, a MA woman missing for the previous 27 hours was located by hikers out for a hike up a powerline road in the town of Gorham.

Officials say that Megan Kelley, 39, of Fall River, MA had gone missing from the Dolly Copp Campground in Martin’s Location on Saturday morning. An investigation failed to determine where she had gone and she was listed as a missing person. A Facebook post was made by family members and several leads came in indicating she had been seen in other areas of the state. Family members also searched a popular hiking trail near the campground as a potential, but failed to locate her.

Sunday morning NH Fish and Game began organizing a search in the vicinity where she was last known to be seen. Resources from NE K9 for canine support, Andoscoggin Valley Search & Rescue (AVSAR) and a drone team, along with several Conservation Officers were called to assist.

While waiting for rescue teams to arrive, a couple out for a hike up a powerline in the vicinity of a series of mountain biking trails came upon Kelley lying on the side of the access road. A call to 911 was made and rescue personnel from Gorham Fire & EMS, AVSAR, and Conservation Officers responded to the scene. Kelley was not mobile, so she was placed in a litter and transported out to an awaiting Gorham Ambulance. From there she was transported to Androscoggin Valley Hospital in Berlin.

It is still unknown how Kelley ended up in this particular location, but she suffered no life-threatening injuries.” Thank you team!

NH Fish & Game report:

“Injured Hiker Rescued from Lion Head Trail

Sargent’s Purchase – On Tuesday, July 28, 2026 at approximately 1:30 PM, NH Fish and Game was notified of an injured hiker on the Lion Head Trail in Sargent’s Purchase. The caller reported that a female hiker had suffered a severe lower leg injury preventing her from being able to walk out. The hiker was identified as Jade Dubois, 19, of Saint-Christophe-d’Arthabaska, Quebec.

The injury occurred approximately ¼ mile above the Hermit Lake shelter. A rescue response was initated and Conservation Officers and volunteers from Androscoggin Valley Search and Rescue responded. Prior to the arrival of the rescue crew, a group of good Samaritan hikers, who came upon Dubois, took a rescue litter from a stash at the Hermit Lake Shelter and volunteered to carry her down the trail to the shelter. While they were doing this, Conservation Officers were utilizing ATVs to drive up the Sherburne Ski Trail.

Once at the shelter, Dubois was fitted with a vacuum splint and she stayed in the litter which was secured to the ATV and slowly driven down the trail. AVSAR members had hiked up the Sherburne and were available for support on some of the steeper sections. While at the Hermit Lake Shelter, a report of another injured hiker came in, and a separate CO with another ATV worked on getting that victim to his ATV for transport out.

At 5:25 PM, the rescue crew made it to Pinkham Notch Visitor Center where Dubois was transferred to the Gorham Ambulance. Although a potentially serious injury, Dubois refused transport to a local hospital and instead chose to seek her own medical care in her home country.” Amazing teamwork by all and thank you to the good Samaritans who helped substantially in this mission.

NH Fish & Game report:

“Hiker Rescued from Tuckerman Ravine Trail

Sargent’s Purchase – On Saturday, July 25, 2026 at approximately 1:20 PM, NH Fish and Game received a 911 call about an injured hiker on the Tuckerman Ravine Trail near the Tuckerman Junction approximately ½ mile from the summit of Mt. Washington. The hiker identified as Richard Beaulieu, 18, of Granby, MA had suffered a significant leg injury and could no longer continue on.

Passerby hikers with EMT certifications assessed the injury and provided medical support while a rescue crew was assembled. A rescue response from NHFG Conservation Officers, Androscoggin Valley Search and Rescue (AVSAR) and Lakes Region Search and Rescue (LRSAR) responded to this incident.

Rescue personnel were transported up the Mt. Washington Auto Road to the summit and hiked down the ½ mile to the injured hiker. He was placed in a litter and carried back up to the summit by the rescue personnel and the 4 Good Samaritan hikers who stayed to help.

At 5:50 PM, the rescue crew made it to the summit where Beaulieu was placed in a NHFG cruiser and transported down the Auto Road where he was then transferred to the Gorham Ambulance. Beaulieu was ultimately transported to Androscoggin Valley Hospital in Berlin for treatment of his injury.“ Thank you to our team for your response and also to and to the handful of good Samaritans who offered their care and assistance!

NH Fish & Game report:

“Pinkham’s Grant, NH – On the afternoon of Monday, July 13, 2026, a host of first responders congregated at Glen Ellis Falls in Pinkham Notch to assist a young man who was injured in a cliff jumping incident.

At approximately 3:40 p.m., a New Hampshire Fish and Game Department Conservation Officer received a call about a young man who had sustained significant but unknown injuries after reportedly landing on some rocks after jumping off Glen Ellis Falls (which is reported to be 64 feet tall). The caller reported the man was seriously injured, but to an unknown extent. The Conservation Officer, who was a significant distance away, requested a response from any police and EMS that could get there quicker than he could to make an assessment of the situation and provide life-saving measures if necessary.

The call for help generated a large and immediate response. Personnel from Bartlett/Jackson Ambulance, multiple fire departments, Jackson Police, Bartlett Police, New Hampshire State Police, Appalachian Mountain Club (AMC), Androscoggin Valley Search and Rescue Team (AVSAR), and Fish and Game all responded. The young man was quickly located and assessed by EMS personnel. Although he was unable to walk, it appeared that his injuries were non-life-threatening.

Once enough personnel had arrived, the patient was secured in a litter and carried to the Glen Ellis Falls parking lot adjacent to Route 16. The litter crew arrived safely at the parking lot at 4:57 p.m. Once roadside, the young man was transferred into the Bartlett/Jackson ambulance and taken to Memorial Hospital in North Conway for further evaluation and treatment.

The patient was identified as a 17-year-old male from Massachusetts.”
