🐾 "Why Does a Rescue's Adoption Fee Sometimes Cost More Than a Shelter's?" 🐾
It's a fair question, and the answer comes down to how animals are cared for before adoption.
Many shelters receive funding from local governments, grants, and tax dollars to help offset the costs of caring for animals. Rescues, on the other hand, are often completely dependent on adoption fees, donations, and fundraising efforts to keep their doors open.
🏡 Rescue pets are typically raised in foster homes, where they receive individual attention, socialization, house manners, and valuable information about their personalities and needs.
🩺 Many rescues go above and beyond standard vetting, covering spay/neuter, vaccinations, microchips, deworming, flea and heartworm prevention, and often extensive medical care for animals that arrive sick, injured, neglected, or pregnant.
🐕 Rescues frequently take the animals others won't. Senior pets, animals with medical needs, behavioral challenges, disabilities, or those requiring expensive treatment often end up in rescue care because they have nowhere else to go.
💲 The truth is, even when a rescue's adoption fee is higher, it rarely covers what has actually been spent on that animal. Adoption fees from healthy, easily adoptable pets often help fund the care of animals with much greater medical or rehabilitation costs.
