Boost your disaster readiness and look out for your neighbors by joining the upcoming SAFEBOUND Lunch & Learn series! This community education series is perfectly tailored to help you prepare for emergencies, understand local resources, and learn how to safely organize and help those around you when it matters most.

Here is the upcoming schedule at the Delmas Long Community Center (for seniors 60 and up):

Learn how to stabilize your own home after a storm so you can safely step up to organize, assist, and support your neighborhood.

• Dec 15 @ 12:30pm | Session 2: Winter Ready: Preparing Your Home & Family

Get ahead of freezing temperatures with vital tips on winter weather safety, power outages, and emergency supplies.

• Jan 12 @ 12:30pm | Session 3 (Part 1): Building a Community Response Plan

Discover practical strategies for identifying vulnerable neighbors, sharing resources, and communicating during outages.

• Jan 12 @ 1:30pm | Session 3 (Part 2): Who Do I Call?

Meet directly with representatives from Goodlettsville Police and Fire to learn who to call, how to report concerns, and what services they provide.

• Jan 19 @ 12:30pm | Session 4: After the Storm: Recovery, Resources & Where to Turn

Navigate the post-emergency phase with guidance on assistance programs, insurance considerations, and finding long-term help.

Wow, what a busy and rewarding few days for the Walking With Swager crew!

Our weekend kicked off on Saturday as we jumped in to support a local Eagle Scout service project constructing a much-needed wheelchair ramp for a resident. We stayed moving by hauling off the old ramp debris and making material runs to keep the build on track.

On Sunday, while we were en route to deliver hydraulic oil to our storage unit and unload the truck, duty called in an unexpected way. We received a request from a local resident to help remove a dead deer. While we spared you the photos of that particular task, we successfully moved it to the roadside so public works could safely pick it up this week.

With that taken care of, we headed straight back to the ramp project to check in on the Scouts. Seeing they needed a final push to beat the sunset, we grabbed a screw gun and joined the crew to help finish the build. The recipient was extremely grateful for their newfound freedom and safety!

The momentum didn't stop there. Today (Monday), we partnered up with our amazing volunteers, along with other groups and individuals from the community to set up a massive tent for the upcoming Peyton’s Place fundraiser this Thursday.

A lot of progress made today on an Eagle Scout project replacing a wheelchair ramp in for a Sumner County resident. Hauled off the old ramp and even blessed the ramp recipient with a set of patio furniture that had been donated earlier this week.

One of the Scouts had heard the resident say they had not had a deck area before where they could have a patio chair. We happened to have the donated furniture in the truck on site so we were able to fulfill that wish thanks to our generous supporters.

A local resident is receiving a life-changing accessibility ramp, giving them piece of mind getting in and out of their home. An Eagle Scout candidate is receiving valuable leadership and project management skills, fulfilling the requirements for this milestone.

The community came together to provide the resources needed for this build. Our donors, The Home Depot, and a local contractor all played a vital part in meeting this need. The contractor generously donated $500 toward the project after meeting the Scout at the Pro Desk while they were purchasing the ramp materials. For that, we say thank you!

Another opportunity to help out. And this one benefits a great cause!

We will be helping set up an event tent for an event to benefit Seven Rays Ranch on Monday, October 12 at 4 PM. We will need at least 5 people to assist. If we have enough people, we should be able to set up by 6.

UPDATE: Today’s work day is postponed to October 17 from 9-12. We will need a few more hands to accomplish what needs to be done and the weather has affected our response. Please message us for more details and look for an updated volunteer post tomorrow.

Nearing the end of our clean up project but we still have more to do. Saturday, October 10 from 9-12 we will be working to clear ore of the debris and accumulation. Let us know if you can assist.

UPDATE: This activity has been postponed due to weather.

Anyone available to help a resident of Greenbrier tomorrow morning, October 3rd? We were approached by a Greenbrier Commissioner asking for assistance. She needs help with w**d eating. I have the equipment and PPE. Just need one or two bodies. Comment or message for details.

Today is the last day of National Preparedness Month. Preparation is key in a disaster situation.

A couple key items for your household during a disaster situation are a weather alert radio and cash.

In the first few days following a disaster, cash is a valuable asset. Communications lines are likely compromised and cash may be your only option to purchase needed resources. It could take days to even a week or more for services to be restored to pre-disaster levels depending upon the severity of the incident. Having cash to sustain in those early days can be a difference maker for your family.

A good weather alert radio is another key item. Good weather alert radios have a hand crank, solar recharging capability, a light, a siren, and charging capability for a cell phone or device. The information they provide is essential as the disaster is happening. They also provide valuable information in the days following the disaster. Midland is our recommended brand. There are other manufacturers but the quality of the Midland radio is excellent.

And one more tip. Following a disaster, compromised communications services can make phone calls impossible. But, texting often will work when calling does not. In those first few days, texting can be your lifeline to relatives and friends outside the impact zone.

Making progress with a great crew of volunteers. Thank you Simmons Bank for partnering with Walking With Swager on our currently clean-up project.

With the Simmons Team and our volunteers, we were able to remove a lot more brush and begin clearing out the carports. Our project isn’t finished yet but we are getting there. Keep an eye out for a reel from our work today coming soon.
