🚨Last day to donate for North Texas Gives to Animals🚨

Your donation not only supports the daily husbandry and care of our 1,000+ animals, but it also fuels our critical conservation efforts both locally and globally. As a nonprofit organization, we simply couldn't do this vital work without you. Thanks to your support we're able to make our mission possible💓🦒.

Being able to lift 10x your weight still won’t save you from the Dustbuster. 🐜

Harvester ants are the primary food source for the Texas horned lizards that call Fossil Rim home. We’re lucky to have plenty of active mounds across the property, but keeping our lizards well-fed sometimes means heading out to “vacuum” the pasture.

Thanks to Michael for taking one for the team and getting the occasional ants in the pants… all in the name of conservation.

At the end of a long week there's nothing like your favorite treat! 🥩🐆

Occasionally you'll pass by the cheetah yard and see them gnawing on a bone; don't panic!

It is normal for our animal care staff to provide the cheetahs enrichment, especially on CATurday.🐾

Betty Jane’s Mother’s Day arrival is busy meeting the world, and she’s already captured our hearts. As we celebrate this new life, we’re looking to our supporters and community to help us keep the whole herd healthy and happy.

Your donations directly fund the specialized care and daily essentials for all 1,100 animals who call Fossil Rim home.

Proof that you’re never too old for an adventure! 🦒

Technically, our Junior Safari Kit says “ages 3+,” and our manager is... well, he’s definitely the “+.” 😅

When you book a self-drive tour, save 5 dollars on the kit at checkout!🕵️‍♂️

POV: everything is a salt lick. 👅📸🦒

One curious sniff turned into a full lens cleaning service. The good news? The camera survived. The bad news? We may never financially recover from the slobber.

There will be hundreds of these Attwater's prairie chicks starting their dancing careers over the next couple of weeks. 🐣

Fossil Rim has been part of the comeback story for the Attwater’s prairie chicken since the very beginning. 🥚

In 1992, we helped launch a captive breeding effort through the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service recovery program at a time when this iconic Texas bird was on the brink. What started here has grown into a powerful partnership with facilities like the Houston Zoo, Caldwell Zoo, and the George Miksch Sutton Avian Research Center, along with Texas Parks and Wildlife and university teams across the state.

Because of this collaborative work, Attwater’s prairie chickens are still strutting, booming, and holding on. Conservation takes a village, and this effort is what it looks like when it works.
