Anima - Glen Ellyn Children's Chorus

Anima - Glen Ellyn Children's Chorus Founded in 1964-Anima is a 501(c)3 performance based choral music education program.

Anima-GECC means breath, life, soul, spirit, and mind, which reflects our mission to transform young lives through excellence in music education and choral singing. Choristers rehearse twice weekly, after school, and perform locally, nationally and internationally. Advanced ensembles perform with world famous conductors with such organizations as the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, Berlin Philharmoni

c and the Lyric Opera. Predicated on the principle that ALL children are inherently musical and that music vitally enriches the quality of life, Chorus activities are designed to help discover, nurture, and develop the “artist in every child”.

On Tuesday, we left Madrid for Córdoba on the AVE train. When we arrived, we visited La Mezquita-Catedral de Córdoba (Mosque-Cathedral of Cordoba), the only building of its kind in the world. What a stunning combination of ideologies and architectural styles!!

Then, we headed down to Seville, and on Wednesday, we visited the Catedral de Sevilla. Just amazing!

Local musicians playing during dinner in the Niño Jesus barrio of Madrid! This perfectly sums up why we value taking our singers on tour. Experiences like this give them an enhanced appreciation for the beauty of music across the globe, and it shows them how important it is to be global citizens! Toledo was beyond our wildest expectations!

It is known as the "City of Three Cultures," where people of Christian, Muslim, and Jewish traditions have all lived peacefully for centuries. While exploring the city's exceptional architecture and beauty, we visited Church of Santo Tomé, the Catedral Primada de Toledo, and the Synagogue of Santa María la Blanca.

Later that evening, we provided music for the liturgy at Santuario Nuestra Sen᷉ora de la Caridad. What a moving experience!

We spent the weekend in Madrid, sightseeing and enjoying a fantastic walking tour!

Our first performance took place Sunday evening at Parroquia de San Sebastián, a stunning church with an incredible history. Even rehearsing on the street prior to the concert was inspiring - just listen to the acoustics!

Our Spain tour is off to a wonderful start!

All of our area schools have now finished up for the academic year, so we want to wish all of our singers, families, and colleagues a wonderful summer break!

We have lots going on this summer, starting with our Spain tour that kicks off in just one week, so be sure to like and follow us so you don't miss anything. We can't wait to share our travels with you!

One of the many special moments at this year's Spring Concert brought together our artistic leadership, past and present.

Mr. Bill Buhr's 40 years of dedication to Anima were honored with the presentation of a memory book spanning the decades. Mr. Bruno was joined by our esteemed Artistic Directors Emeritae, Dr. Doreen Rao and Ms. Emily Ellsworth, in recognizing Mr. Buhr's incomparable legacy.

Thank you to all who contributed to this meaningful project - your words, photos, and memories helped to create a beautiful memento for Mr. Buhr that portrays our collective gratitude and appreciation.
