Dangerous heat is coming. Do not wait until your home becomes unsafe to ask for help.

Delaware is heading into a stretch of extreme heat, with dangerously high temperatures and humidity expected to increase the risk of heat-related illness. Prolonged heat can be especially dangerous for older adults, young children, people with disabilities, and individuals living with chronic breathing conditions.

First State Community Action Agency’s Summer Cooling Assistance Program may provide a no-cost, room-sized air conditioner to eligible Delaware households.

Your household may qualify if it includes:

• A child age 5 or younger
• An adult age 60 or older
• A person with a disability
• Someone with a chronic breathing condition, including asthma, chronic bronchitis, emphysema, or COPD

Income and additional eligibility requirements apply.

Do not wait until the heat becomes an emergency.

Apply now at https://www.jotform.com/team/232606932367056/SCAP or call 302-856-7761 for help getting started.

Please share this post. Someone in your family, neighborhood, or community may need help staying safe this summer.

Last week, staff from our Community Development and Client-Based Services teams joined residents of the Star Hill community and the Food Bank of Delaware for a food distribution.

Food access is connected to so many parts of daily life. When families have reliable access to food, it can ease pressure, support health, and create space to focus on other needs.

We were glad to support an effort rooted in partnership and community connection. Star Hill’s leadership, the Food Bank’s resources, and the presence of local service providers all help bring support closer to the people who need it.

This is what it looks like to meet people where they are: working together, showing up, and connecting residents with resources in a way that is accessible.
