A special all-day event called "Every Moment Counts Day" will be held at the Shepherd's Office on Monday, August 31st to close out these hot summer months.

You are invited to our event on Monday, August 31st, from 8 30 am to 5 30 pm. We will have Free Haircuts, Hot Showers, immediate help for Hep C infections, Free Meals and Free Clothes and access to other community resources.

A homeless mom reached out to us. Her name is Evie. Her husband, their son and Evie are homeless in Georgetown. She’s been sharing her thoughts with our team and I, and she has agreed that we may share them with you.

Over the past few weeks, during this very hot and stormy summer month, Evie sent these texts to us at the Shepherd's Office:

“Jim and team, I miss being able to open the fridge whenever I want and eat what I feel like eating. Without one, I don’t know when I’ll eat again.”

“Maybe people don’t realize how expensive homelessness is. Instead of paying for what you need week by week or month by month, you’re paying hour by hour and day by day, and when it adds up, it costs so much more.”

“It’s hard to know what’s worse, the heat or the storms. There are so few places to cool off, and nowhere safe to escape the rain and wind in the middle of the night.”

“It’s hard to remember that when people treat me badly because of my circumstances, it isn’t about me or my actions. It’s about their judgments and prejudices.”

“Today, a woman hugged me and reminded me that God loves me. Even when I’m struggling with my faith, God still finds ways to remind me He is with me and in control.”

“Once you become homeless, many people seem to stop seeing you as a person. They call you a nuisance, a bum, a ju**ie. But I am still a mother, a wife, a daughter, a sister, and a friend. I don’t know how to change the public’s view, but I wish I could.”

“I wish I could understand why, to so many men, being homeless and being a woman means I must sell myself. And when I say no, when I tell them I’m married, they don’t take that for an answer. It’s degrading, and it makes me angry and sad that life is like this out here, with no home for me and my family.”

If you are homeless or know of a homeless person, please let them know about the "Every Moment Counts" event being held at the Shepherd's Office from 9 am to 5 pm on Monday, August 31st! We will give out Free Food, Free Meals, Free Clothes, Free Hair-cuts and Hot Showers. Please help us get the word out!

Are you homeless? Or have you ever been homeless? Maybe you can help with a special project? Can you write a few paragraphs on why "Every Moment Counts" while being homeless? Maybe you could describe why regular access to healthy homemade meals and clean, dry clothing is important. Also why hygiene items and hot showers, quick care for possible skin infections or treatment for Hep C, or help with other health crisis situations are important for a homeless person to access quickly when needed. Your thoughts will be shared during a special all-day event called "Every Moment Counts Day" at the Shepherd's Office on Monday, August 31st to close out these hot summer months. In about 4 hours, at 4 PM today, we are expecting to give out about 250 healthy free meals but we only have enough prepared food for 100 meals. We had such a busy week and we desperately need your help. Can 15 people make 10 meals? Or one crock pot worth of your typical dinner that you would make for your family and drop it off by 3:30 pm. Free School Supplies on Thursday, August 13th from 3 pm to 7 pm. Free 4 PM Homemade Dinner. Free clothes from 10 am to 3 pm too. Perdue Farms is also hiring and you can ask them about jobs. Please like and share to help others find us on Thursday.

Our team and I always try our best to empower our homeless guests. We do this by helping them connect again with local job opportunities and housing leads. But we see over and over again that they do not even have a cell phone, or a mailing address or even a bank account. So the first steps we take are to empower them. This means that we all team up and find a way for them to reconnect with the community around them. We call it our "launch pad" program. We get them a new cell phone, we help them replace a lost State ID or Driver's license or a lost social security card. We also help them set up an email address, a digital bank account in their name and of course a mailing address that they can use even though they have no home. This is a very busy part of our program nowadays!
One of our homeless guests named Evie texted our team over the last few days providing sad insights about her difficult homelessness that she struggles with every day in this horrible heat. So with her new cell phone that we gave Evie, she sent our team a few texts. She also said it is okay with her to share her texts with our community out here on Facebook. She hopes to provide a glimpse of what it is like to be homeless in Georgetown, DE.

On August 4th, 2026 while homeless in Georgetown, Evie writes to us with her new cell phone... "Being homeless strips away my dignity to an extent I didn't expect. The way I am viewed and treated out here makes me feel like I'm not even considered a human being. I wish people would take a moment and consider the effect their actions have on me when they treat people like me with such unkindness."

Evie then texts us on August 5th, 2026 and sadly writes and shares with us... "I wish I could understand why in so many men's minds that since I am homeless, and a woman, I must sell myself to them. And when they are told no, and I say that I am married and that my husband, our adult son and I are homeless out here, they don't seem to want to take that as an answer. It's degrading and makes me angry and sad that things are this way for us homeless ladies out here."

Our Sunday Church Service at Noon for the Homeless is growing and it is too big for our small spot at the Shepherd's Office in Georgetown. We also give out a Free Lunch after our Church Service. Does anyone know of a decent sized building that we can use or rent every Sunday? Or a local church who would allow us to utilize their property?

Thanks for all your help! We loved meeting you all!

With so many changes happening across the DelMarVa region, it was the perfect opportunity for our TCC leadership team to connect and give back together. What began as a regular meeting quickly turned into a surprise adventure when the team was asked to pack up and hop into a van, with no idea what the day had in store.

The first stop was a local favorite pastry shop for some morning treats, followed by a virtual reality team‑building experience filled with laughs and friendly competition. Afterward, Regional Director Zach H. presented the District Manager of the Year awards, recognizing outstanding leadership across the region.

The day concluded in true TCC fashion at one of their favorite nonprofit partners, The Shepherd’s House/Shepherd's Office, where the team helped serve dinner to unhoused members of their community.

It was an inspiring day of connection, celebration, and service and a great example of how we live out our commitment to giving back.
