uinely meeting each child wherever they are. ROOTS is located in Georgetown, DE on a family homestead, on Peterkins rd. We offer weekly, hands-on, integrative life-skill workshops for ages 18mos-Adults! ROOTS Offerings:
-Farm & Forest School (Homeschool 1, 2, and full time 4 day options!)
-Summer Camps
-Nature Pals (toddler nature class)
-Weekly after school workshops
-Off-site workshops at local businesses
-Foster Care Sponsorship opportunities

We believe there is a monumental need to heal the disconnection between the people themselves, and the earth that provides for us. We are inspired to help raise up a generation of children who are deeply connected to the world around them, have the knowledge and practical life skills to live self-sufficiently, while promoting altruism to build community. Introducing children to these skills at a young age will establish an amazing foundation for their futures. ROOTS Pillars: Workshops/Events will incorporate our Pillars: Regenerative Farming, Nature Studies, Bushcraft, Animal Husbandry, Homesteading, Mindfulness, and Community Building. All workshops will integrate the teaching of healthy interpersonal skills (leadership, teamwork, communication, empathy, problem solving, etc)

With each season of the year comes a new opportunity to learn! You will have hands-on opportunities to learn about:

-Soap/candle making
-Composting
-Tree studies
-Baking
-Canning produce
-Handmade things w/natural items
-Making jams
-Healthy communication skills/ conflict resolution

🌿 THE ROOTS KIDS CREW IS GROWING 🌿

While their mamas were inside for a Community Outreach training, these kiddos were busy doing a little community building of their own. 🥹💛

Some have been part of the ROOTS kids crew since last year, and this year, a few new faces have joined the group. Watching them all come together so naturally to play, laugh, and make new friendships was pretty special.

And apparently, when there’s a sprinkler involved, who needs swimsuits? 😂💦 Clothes and all, they jumped right in!

There’s something really sweet about watching our ROOTS community grow — not just among our staff and families, but among these kiddos who get to grow up alongside it, too. 🌱💚

🌳 𝐖𝐡𝐲 𝐝𝐨 𝐰𝐞 𝐥𝐞𝐭 𝐤𝐢𝐝𝐬 𝐜𝐥𝐢𝐦𝐛 𝐭𝐫𝐞𝐞𝐬 𝐚𝐭 𝐑𝐎𝐎𝐓𝐒?

Because to a child, it might just feel like climbing a tree… but there’s SO much happening along the way. 💚

They’re figuring out where to put their foot next. Testing their strength. Making decisions. Working through a little uncertainty. Discovering what their bodies are capable of. And feeling so proud when they make it just a little bit higher than last time.

Tree climbing is play — but it’s also problem solving, confidence building, risk assessment, movement, resilience, and connection with the natural world.

At ROOTS, we believe childhood needs opportunities to move, explore, take appropriate risks, solve problems, and discover “I can do this!” for themselves. 🌿

Sometimes some of the biggest learning happens up in the branches. 🌳🐺

And that’s a wrap on Meet the Teacher! 🌿

What a way to finish — welcoming our first founding ROOTS Middle School group, ages 10–13, into a space created specifically for them.

There was something really special about looking around today and seeing kiddos who have grown up through ROOTS programs and are now stepping into this next chapter, alongside brand-new students and families joining our community for the first time. This is exactly the kind of growth we’ve dreamed about.

This year, our middle schoolers will have the opportunity to take everything ROOTS has always valued — curiosity, connection, independence, time outdoors, meaningful learning and care for the world around them — and take it deeper.

A big part of that will be their Mission Projects: opportunities to identify real needs, questions and challenges within their communities and environment, then work together to do something meaningful about them. They'll make real-world connections, build relationships with community partners, problem-solve, create, serve, lead and see that their ideas and actions can have an impact beyond the classroom.

And they get to do it all alongside a trio of absolute rock-star teachers who are ready to guide them, challenge them, laugh with them and help make this year one they’ll remember.

We have SO much planned — adventures, projects, community connections, plenty of time in the woods, and probably a few ideas these kids will come up with that none of us have even imagined yet.

What a beautiful way to close out our Meet the Teacher days across ROOTS.

Our spaces are ready. Our educators are ready. Our families are coming together.

And now… we’re ready for year SIX. 🌱

We’ll spend time getting to know one another, sharing resources and ideas, talking about how we can support each other throughout the school year, and opening up conversations about ways we can continue building community within and across our programs.

Another beautiful Meet the Teachers day in the books!

Today we welcomed our Townsend Nature Pals, One-Day and Two-Day Homeschool Enrichment families, along with our Clayton Four-Day families — and once again, we walked away feeling incredibly grateful for this community.

There’s something so special about watching these spaces begin to come alive before the school year even starts. Kiddos explored, played, created, met their teachers, reconnected with old friends, and started making new ones. Some jumped right in like they had never left, while others took their time getting comfortable and finding their place — exactly what these days are meant for.

Our teachers put so much thought into creating activities that gave everyone a chance to connect naturally, and it was wonderful watching those first little friendships and classroom communities already beginning to form.

And, as always, our parents are such a huge part of what makes ROOTS feel like ROOTS. Seeing families talking, laughing, helping their kiddos settle in, welcoming new families, and reconnecting with one another is such a reminder that what we’re building here extends far beyond the classroom.

To our educators, thank you for all the work, creativity, and care you’ve poured into preparing these spaces and welcoming your kiddos.

And to our families, thank you for showing up, trusting us with your children, and continuing to build this community alongside us.

Our hearts are full, and September 14th is getting closer! 🌿
