Last night we had our first garden club meeting of the year held out in a garden! A huge thanks to our member, Sharie Plain for hosting us and giving a tour of her beautiful woodland garden. Another member, Julie Salsido - who works for The Pond Guy, gave a great talk about invasive plants in our area. Douglas Mahan and Sharie provided tasty treats to enjoy on the deck. We really lucked out with perfect weather for the meeting! Be sure to check out the photos of some of Sharie's impressive plants like her massive rhubarb and gorgeous pink columbine happily growing right on top of her compost pile!

If you would like to join in on our fun and help give back to the community through our garden volunteer opportunities in town check out https://edelweissgardenclub.org/join-now or reach out for more info!

We have another pollinator garden installed in the area ๐Ÿฆ‹๐ŸŒฟ๐Ÿ This one was installed by our garden club member, Karen, using the Otsego Conservation District cost share program. After prepping the site and a lot of careful work getting the plants all spaced and planted she had success! Looks great and we can't wait to see it grow.

๐ŸŒŽIt is and we wanted to share with you a couple pollinator garden environments some of our members are working on in their own yards. Several of us have taken advantage of the cost share program that the Otsego Conservation District offers to help land owners restore and create habitat with native species, tree plantings, and more.

๐ŸHere are two examples of Dry Pollinator Gardens being put in this year in full sun, sandy areas. Once established, each garden is designed to bloom all season and provide as many resources as possible to pollinators.

๐Ÿฆ‹If any of you are interested, or know someone who would be, check out http://www.otsegocd.org/owls-cost-share-programs.html for more info!

Closing out the month with a call back to our Tool of the Month - the Garden Claw Cultivator. This tool has been invaluable to so many of us in the club as we have been cleaning up our garden beds, we think it is in the running for Tool of the Year!

Are any of you having success using one in your garden?

We had our third meetup at the Ga***rd Regional Airport yesterday and are making great progress getting the landscaping cleaned up! Things are blooming and we are clearing out so many weeds and grass to let the good stuff shine through! Shout out to their maintenance crew for bringing us a big rig with a scoop to haul away everything we are pulling out!

Check it out, this is sure to be very informative!

Happy ! We love to use things we grow in just about everything we do, including baking! One of our members shared this recipe for Violet Shortbread Cookies that brings foraging in the yard right onto this sweet treat. This recipe works great with any edible flower but, always make 100% sure you know itโ€™s a safe flower to eat and pesticide free.

Do any of you incorporate your garden into your baking? We would love to hear about your ideas and experiences!

For May's Tool of the Month we are featuring a Garden Claw Cultivator. As we head back into our gardens after the long Norther Michigan winter a tool like this will make breaking into compacted soil so much easier - it sure helped us with our work at the airport last week! Just dig the spikes into the ground and rotate to loosen packed soil, aerate, and prepare your beds for planting. Doing this helps the soil absorb water and get nutrients down to your plants roots.

Have any of you used one of these? What kind of results have you gotten?
