If you remember the name Mica Miller from the spring of 2024, there’s a reason you may be seeing her story again this week. And if you didn’t follow it at the time, a new three-part Netflix series is introducing a whole new audience to a case out of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina that has continued to unfold over the past two years.
Mica Francis Miller was 30 years old and separating from her husband, John-Paul Miller, then pastor of Solid Rock Church. On April 27, 2024, Mica traveled to Lumber River State Park in North Carolina, where she was later found deceased. Authorities investigated the entire situation but never identified John-Paul as a suspect, ultimately determining that Mica had passed by her own hand.
But by then, Mica had already made multiple reports to police involving John-Paul. In the weeks before she passed away, she described unwanted contact and incidents that left her concerned for her safety. Her family and friends have since made serious allegations about what was happening within the marriage, while John-Paul has denied wrongdoing.
And that part of the story did not end with Mica’s passing.
In December 2025, a federal grand jury indicted John-Paul on charges of cyberstalking and making false statements to federal investigators. Prosecutors allege that beginning in November 2022, he repeatedly contacted Mica, placed tracking devices on her vehicle and posted an intimate photograph of her online without her consent. The indictment also accuses him of providing false information to investigators when questioned about his contact with Mica.
John-Paul has pleaded not guilty. He has not been charged in connection with Mica’s passing, and the federal case against him is still pending.
That brings us to why Mica’s story is coming back into the conversation now.
Death of the Pastor’s Wife premiered on Netflix on August 26th. The three-part series includes footage of Mica along with accounts from her family and friends, and takes a much closer look at what they say was happening during the final years of her marriage.
For people discovering Mica’s story through the documentary this weekend, there’s considerably more to it than the headlines many of us saw back in 2024. Two years later, allegations involving Mica and her marriage are now at the center of a federal case that has yet to make its way through court.
