Stafford County Recognizes World Polio Day with Local Rotarians

North Stafford Rotary joined fellow Rotarians at the October 20 Stafford County Board of Supervisors meeting to receive a proclamation recognizing October 24 as World Polio Day in Stafford County, Virginia.

Jim Batton and Andrea Hornung represented North Stafford Rotary, alongside Jake Almborg of Stafford Rotary. Their presence brought together two local clubs in support of a shared goal: a world free from polio.

The county’s recognition connects our community with an international effort that has spanned decades. Stafford County’s October agenda materials included the proclamation recognizing World Polio Day, highlighting an opportunity to raise awareness locally about Rotary’s global mission.

Rotary’s commitment to ending polio began with a project to vaccinate children in the Philippines in 1979. In 1988, Rotary became a founding partner of the Global Polio Eradication Initiative. According to Rotary International, the initiative has helped reduce polio cases worldwide by 99.9 percent. Rotary members have contributed more than $2.9 billion in PolioPlus grants, along with countless volunteer hours, to help protect children from the disease.

World Polio Day, observed each year on October 24, is an opportunity to recognize that progress and renew the commitment to finishing the job. Rotary emphasizes that continued support for immunization and disease surveillance remains essential to achieving a polio-free world.

For North Stafford Rotary, this recognition is a reminder that local service can contribute to lasting change far beyond Stafford County. Raising awareness, supporting fundraising, and keeping the conversation going all help sustain the effort.

We thank the Stafford County Board of Supervisors for recognizing World Polio Day, and Jim Batton, Andrea Hornung, and Jake Almborg for representing our Rotary community at the presentation.

DID YOU KNOW? — ROTARY MOMENT!
Four simple questions. One powerful way to live!
Did you know that Rotarians around the world use something called The Four-Way Test to guide their words, decisions, and actions? Before we think, say, or do something, we ask:
Is it the TRUTH?
Is it FAIR to all concerned?
Will it build GOODWILL and BETTER FRIENDSHIPS?
Will it be BENEFICIAL to all concerned?

Created in 1932, The Four-Way Test continues to inspire Rotarians to lead with honesty, fairness, kindness, and integrity. At North Stafford Rotary, we believe making a difference starts with how we treat others—at home, at work, and throughout our community. Imagine if everyone applied these four questions every day. What a difference we could make!

North Stafford Rotary Club had the pleasure of welcoming Andrea Grant of Grant Consulting Group, and her presentation, “From Invisible to Undeniable,” was a room shaker!

If you walked in expecting an ordinary presentation, trust me, you left thinking differently. Andrea delivered an interactive, power-packed session with a 30-day implementation plan to help jumpstart your business, advance your career, and turn your skills into results.

From identifying your strongest transferable skills to understanding who needs them and how to get paid, she challenged us to recognize our value and put it to work. This was practical guidance we could begin applying immediately.

If you’ve been off track, need fresh direction, or are ready for your next level, Andrea brings the insight, energy, and tools to help you move forward.

Looking for a dynamic speaker? Invite Andrea Grant to show your organization what it takes to go from invisible to undeniable.

Andrea, thank you for reminding us that we have something valuable to offer and giving us a plan to act on it. See you at the top, because the bottom is much too crowded!
