Today is International Overdose Awareness Day. While this day often brings to mind illicit substances, accidental overdoses from prescription and over-the-counter medications are a common—and highly preventable—reason for ER visits.

Here are a few important steps you can take to protect your family from an accidental overdose:

- Read the Labels: Always follow dosing instructions carefully, and use the provided measuring tools when giving liquid medicine to children.
- Check Active Ingredients: Many cold and flu medicines share active ingredients (like acetaminophen). Avoid taking multiple medications at once without checking to ensure you aren't double-dosing.
- Lock It Up: Store all medications securely out of sight and out of reach of children and pets.
- Dispose Safely: Routinely clean out your medicine cabinet and safely dispose of expired or unused medications at a local drop-off site.

Heat Exhaustion: Heavy sweating, weakness, nausea, dizziness
Heat Stroke: Confusion, no sweating, high body temperature (103°F+), loss of consciousness

Last week, the TotalCare team rolled up our sleeves and spent an amazing day volunteering with Mission Regan! 🤝❤️

From organizing essential medical supplies to deep-cleaning equipment like wheelchairs and crutches, our staff loved having the opportunity to give back. Seeing true "Unity in Community" in action and helping to connect local hands to global hope was a highly rewarding experience for all of us.
