We’re doing another free side event for the Don Pedro Team Kokanee Derby on July 11 via the MyCatch by Angler's Atlas app. This side event starts Wed July 8 and ends July 12. We are giving away Kokanee Bucks, $100 value each category, for longest and shortest Kokanee and a Blind Bogey category. Just download the app, register and then take pictures of your Kokanee catches on a measuring board via the app. Check it out if you are pre-fishing or just want to be in on the fun with a little citizen science. If you have any questions just let us know. Did I mention it is free to participate and open to anyone. :-)

Here are the winners of the New Melones MyCatch event. This is a side event at each derby, free to anyone, and you simply record your catches via the app. We have been starting it usually on a Wednesday and running it through the derby day or the Sunday. A bit of fun citizen science with some KP buck incentives. For New Melones the winners were:

Longest Kokanee - Chris Dunham - (15 inches)
Shortest Kokanee - Kevin Smith - (8.25 inches)
Blind Bogey - Larry Abernathy - (11.625 Target)

2026 Kokanee Power New Melones Research Project

Here are the New Melones derby results. There were plenty of fish to be caught all over the lake with most averaging 12-13 inches this year. Those who found some 14's and 15's made it to the to the top 10 and overall the longest fish caught was 16.34 inches and the tip weight was 1.44 pounds. Thanks to everyone that came out and enjoyed the day.

The blind bogey is determined by taking the average of the weight total highest score and the lowest score for the 3-Kokanee weigh in.  Here are the results:

It's also on the web site as a link on the left side. Kokanee Power updates this chart every year with the latest data from the DFW, now with 2026 data. In addition to the Kokanee Derby on Sat June 6th we have setup an event using MyCatch by Angler's Atlas for New Melones Starting Wed June 3rd until June 6th. You don't have to be a derby participant to enter and it's free. We are giving away Kokanee Bucks for longest and shortest Kokanee and a Blind Bogey category. Kokanee Power has partnered with the CDFW and Angler’s Atlas MyCatch app to support a multi-year Kokanee Research Project the CDFW has underway to to understand the natural vs planted populations. We’ve created an incentive for anglers for cash and Kokanee bucks from May 23rd to September 7th. All you need to do is register and use the app to record your catches. You will also the CDFW at the Stampede Rampo taking creel samples through the season. Use the gold QR code to sign up and download the app to get started before you get on the lake.
