A group for veterans by a veteran. My wife and I have lived in Galt for almost 8 years now. I am a Life Member of the Marine Corps League and associated with the VFW and American Legion, all out of Elk Grove. A little over 2 years ago, I met with a fellow Galt veteran Tom Silva, and we were discussing the lack of a local veteran’s group and the lack of ANY type of veteran’s support. This is when I
started thinking about creating a group here in Galt. Well… Covid happened…. Life happened… and I had to hold off on the idea. Fast forward to last summer, 2022… I was out at the Galt Market on 4th St., and ran into that same veteran. We discussed the same topic again and this time, I decided to move ahead in creating this group… The Veterans of Galt… a group for veterans ONLY, that live in Galt and surrounding areas, like Harold, Wilton, and Collierville.

Our first meeting was rather thin, with only myself and Tom who showed up. I decided to continue and now we have grown in size. The whole point of this group is for veterans to get together, share stories, share experiences (good or bad), support one another, and build camaraderie. Let’s be honest… sometimes just being in the same room with others who have gone through similar situations in the military or who are going through similar situations because of what you went through in the military, help to get us through those rough patches.
