Happy Friday! We hope you have a great weekend!

Maverick had a pretty good first day & night. He did well on the drive home with the exception of a few vomiting episodes. That's not surprising given his megaesophagus and all the changes he's been through recently. Introductions to our pack went pretty well, and he slept quietly in his crate all night. We're keeping him on-leash during interactions with the rest of the crew for now, but that shouldn't be for very long. He's intelligent, and he enjoys people just slightly more than he enjoys the other dogs.

He's not currently on any medications. That may, or may not, change after we've had a few days to evaluate his megaesophagus symptoms. The second image shows his very enlarged esophagus.

All in all, he's off to a great start. We couldn't save dogs like Maverick without the help of our amazing community. Thank you so much to all of our supporters who make our work possible. 🙂

We are doing an unexpected and urgent intake today. Say hello to MAVERICK.

Maverick is a 5 month old, 35 pound GSD puppy. His family abandoned him last week at the vet’s office when he was diagnosed with Megaesophagus. We spoke to the clinic this morning, and we’re on our way to pick him up.

He hasn’t had any puppy shots and hasn’t been vetted before this week. We had the clinic start his puppy shots this morning and he’ll be seeing our local vet very soon.

We will be looking for a foster for him in a few weeks. We need to get to know him, get his medical care caught up, and make sure his Megaesophagus is well-regulated before we place him with a foster.

I’ll have better pictures and an update for you this evening.

Bugsy saw the eye specialist today.

He is completely blind and has 5 different genetic issues just in his eyes.
I’m sorry I don’t remember all the names of what is going on. I don’t have the report yet.
His pupils are very low in his eyes
The right pupil doesn’t move at all
He has cataracts
There is one small area on the left side that had a small response to light.
There is no fixing these problems.

The big question we are faced with is does Bugsy have a good quality of life.
3 different vets have said No.
I watch him circle all day in his pen, I see the fear of hearing other dogs, he cowers when you approach him, he freezes when you leash him.
We have not made any progress engaging with him. The spinning in circles has become his normal.

This post is to see if there is anyone out there that has a quiet home, no other pets that might want to try and work with him. This is the only other option we have.

The rescue is too over stimulating for him.
