Guest Speaker: Barry Sullivan, Gainesville City Manager
Speaker Presentation: Barry began his presentation with a recap of the recently concluded Gainesville 2040 campaign and with information on the City’s Master Plan. He also updated the members on current city improvement projects recently begun. The Master Plan 2024 was well received by the citizens. A higher than expected number of people participated in the planning meetings. Over 200 people attended the workshops. Several good suggestions for the future of the city came from citizen participation in the process. A joint project of the City and The Texas Department of Transportation has begun in the construction of a six-foot-wide sidewalk connecting the NCTC with downtown Gainesville. Under the same project, an additional stretch of sidewalk will be constructed between Gainesville High School and the Gainesville City Central area. Construction of the sidewalk from NCTC to downtown has now begun. The project will take 12 months to complete. There is also a plan underway to add or enhance the amenities of three of the city’s parks. Kiwanis Park, Pecan Creek Park and the Forsythe Skate Park are under study for that project. Club members were encouraged to take part in the online survey currently in process. The Asphalt Zipper machine will be operational in October. Some of the roads at Fairview Cemetery will be the first to be improved. The Tom Thumb expansion has begun. No estimated completion time was given.
