What changed between 2009 and today?

In 2009, The American Legion supported benefits for Filipino veterans, but rejected a PAYGO scheme that would take an earned benefit from elderly, disabled homebound veterans to pay for them.

The American Legion called it a "rob Peter to pay Paul" approach that "pits veterans against veterans."

The principle was clear then, and it should remain clear today!

Contact your Post, District, Department, NEC representative, and National leadership. Encourage them to advocate publicly for veterans by urging Congress to:

1. Sign the discharge petition for the Major Richard Star Act and bring it to a vote.
2. Reject disability compensation offsets that force veterans to compete against veterans.
3. Oppose Section 108 of the "Take Care of America's Veterans Act" (TCAVA), S. 4744.

Then take your advocacy directly to Congress.
