Last week we joined forces with our friends at Drax and the NRCS to host local land owners at the Rural Research and Training Center.

As we toured the RTRC we showed what we have on demonstration and how those practices can assist land owners in managing their forest lands.

Our friends in NRCS explained the ins and out of some of their programs while we showed in real time what it looks like.

Yesterday, a few of our staff and our friends over in the East Alabama Farmers Cooperative joined Justin Myles on his property down in Geneva County for a field and farm tour.

We were able to take in a few of the 150 acres of cotton he produces. We also learned some of the ins and outs of his operation and what it takes to farm cotton in 2026.

We want to extend a thank you to Mr. Myles for his hospitality and for taking the time to show and educate us.

This past weekend we were honored to help The Freedom Quilting Bee Celebrate 60 years of its existence! We joined in fellowship, ate good, bought quilts and sat at the feet of the women who have helped keep this beautiful organization alive and strong!

We at ASAC value all types of farmers large and small. From community gardens to 100 acre ranches.

Our very own Tia Parker and Andre Carter visited with our friends at the Historic Bethel Baptist Church in Birmingham, and their beautiful community garden!

Bethel Baptist are participating in our food system and CSA program along with two other churches in the city. Funded by our friends at the African American Civil Rights Heritage sites Consortium.

We want to extend this shoutout to Bethel Baptist, New Birth Missionary Baptist, and Old Sardis for their participation in our CSA program and building up their community gardens.

This weekend marked 59 years of the Federation of Southern Cooperatives. On behalf of ASAC and the entire Federation we would like to extend a thank you to all our members in Alabama and across the 17 states we serve.

We also would like to extend a thank you to all our friends, and potential members that attended and learned what we do at the federation and at the Rural Research and Training Center.

This includes our friends over at Eco Paradigm who assisted us in cleaning up and doing some good work over in Georgia!

Here’s to another 59 years and our upcoming 60th anniversary!

Another one in the books at the RTRC!! Our honey extraction workshop was a success.
We went from hive to harvest pulling nuc’s and scraping that liquid gold!

Our staff and membership all gathered to learn how to properly collect honey, use the extractor and how to get their honey into markets!
