Meet Camryn, Mental Health Supportive Housing Advocate at Oswego County Opportunities, Inc.
"I love working for OCO because I love the freedom and fulfillment it provides. I’m not stuck behind a counter or stuck behind a desk all day. Every day is a little different and I set my own pace. I go into work and I know I’m not spending my time just helping some corporation make millions; I am really doing something that makes a difference. I really never dread going to work. The people I work with make it even better---you can really be yourself here and genuinely have fun. OCO attracts good people that honestly have done so much for me without expecting anything in return. Oh---and the PTO time doesn’t hurt!
I like working in Behavioral Health specifically. Sometimes staff might be the only support a client has in their life; that is a big responsibility, but also a blessing. I love helping to defeat misconceptions about our Behavioral Health population and seeing a client’s personality shine with a little bit of help. I wish everyone could spend as much time in Behavioral Health as I have and see that just because someone has a certain diagnosis, that does not mean they’re scary or dangerous. They laugh, cry, have favorite foods and favorite songs just like everyone else. It is really inspiring to see many Behavioral Health clients remain kind-hearted with some of the cards they have been dealt in life. I know that working for OCO has made me more grateful in my own life and realize what I take for granted every day."
