We were pleased to attend this recent event hosted by the Brazoria County Hispanic Chamber Of Commerce and appreciate the opportunity to continue strengthening our mutually beneficial partnership.

During the event, Dr. Kelly shared information about economic development in Freeport, local tax rates, doing business in the community, and programs available through the Freeport Economic Development Corporation, including our Business Improvement Grant Program.

Following the presentation, we had the opportunity to answer questions and provide additional information about the grant application process. We emphasized that our team is available to help businesses complete the application, answer questions, and guide applicants through the process.

We also want our Spanish-speaking business community to know that assistance is available. The application is offered in both English and Spanish, and we can provide translation support or work alongside the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce to help make the process as accessible as possible.

Thank you again to the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce for hosting this event and for continuing to be a valued partner in supporting local businesses and economic growth in Freeport.

Lost? That’s exactly what wayfinding is meant to fix.

You may have heard us use the word “wayfinding” lately, but what does that actually mean?

Wayfinding is simply how people find their way around a community.

It includes the signs, landmarks, maps, colors, symbols, and other visual cues that help residents and visitors understand:

📍 Where they are
➡️ Where they are going
🏖️ How to get to important destinations
🏙️ What areas and attractions are nearby

For Freeport, that could include helping people better find places like Downtown, the beach, parks, public facilities, recreational areas, businesses, and other community destinations.

But good wayfinding does more than give directions. It can create a more welcoming experience, make destinations easier to find, improve the appearance of major corridors, and help create a consistent identity throughout the community.

The Freeport Economic Development Corporation is currently working with Clark Condon on a wayfinding project that looks at both how we guide people through Freeport and how our community is visually represented along the way.

The goal is simple: make Freeport easier to navigate, easier to recognize, and easier to explore.

As this project continues, we’ll share more about the process, the ideas being considered, and what residents can expect to see in the future.

The Freeport Economic Development Corporation recently invested $2,300 to address an underground backflow and drainage issue at 210 W. Park Avenue.

During periods of heavy rain, this issue caused restroom drains to back up and disrupted nearby Main Street businesses, particularly Mama C, located at 212 W. Park, next door. Although much of the work happened underground and out of public view, fixing problems like this is an important part of supporting our local businesses and strengthening downtown Freeport’s infrastructure.

Luycx Plumbing completed the repair in coordination with Nick Meeks with the City of Freeport. The work involved excavating the alley, locating the connected drainage lines, identifying the obstruction, completing the necessary repair, testing the flow, and restoring the area.

The second image provides a simplified look at what this type of underground repair may involve. Actual repairs vary depending on the connections and conditions discovered at the site.

This is another step toward building a stronger, more reliable downtown—because supporting business growth also means addressing the infrastructure challenges that affect our businesses every day.

🎉 Congratulations to Premiere Laundry!

The Freeport Economic Development Corporation is proud to recognize Premiere Laundry as a recipient of the Business Improvement Grant Program.

Premiere Laundry invested $27,969.57 to revitalize its commercial property through exterior painting and roof repairs, helping transform the shopping center into an attractive, move-in-ready location for future businesses. Through the Business Improvement Grant Program, the Freeport EDC approved a $12,500 investment to support these eligible property improvements.

Located at 1331 N. Avenue I, this shopping center is home to The Wash Freeport, a full-service laundromat, and Karla's Kloset, a locally owned boutique that has been serving the community since 2025. With these improvements complete, additional commercial space is now available for entrepreneurs looking to establish service-based businesses that complement the existing tenants.

Projects like this strengthen Freeport by improving commercial properties, encouraging private investment, and creating opportunities for new businesses to grow. Well-maintained shopping centers help attract tenants, increase customer traffic, and support long-term economic vitality throughout our community.

🐾 Congratulations to the SPCA Re-Tail Thrift Store!

The Freeport Economic Development Corporation is proud to recognize the SPCA Re-Tail Thrift Store as a recipient of the Business Improvement Grant Program.

The SPCA recently faced an unexpected challenge when the air conditioning system at its Freeport thrift store failed completely. Without replacement, shoppers, volunteers, and staff would have been faced with temperatures exceeding 100 degrees, placing the continued operation of the store at risk.

To address this critical need, the SPCA invested $20,000 to replace the air conditioning system. Through the Business Improvement Grant Program, the Freeport EDC approved a $10,000 investment to help support this essential improvement.

This project is about more than replacing an air conditioning unit. The thrift store helps support the SPCA's mission of caring for animals throughout Brazoria County by generating funding for veterinary care, shelter operations, and services such as low-cost spay and neuter programs, vaccinations, and wellness care.

The store is also an important part of our local economy, supporting three full-time employees and a dedicated team of volunteers who make its mission possible.

The Business Improvement Grant Program exists to encourage investment that strengthens our community. In this case, helping keep the SPCA Re-Tail Thrift Store open means preserving a resource that serves both the people and animals of Freeport.

🎉 Congratulations to The Wash Freeport!

The Freeport Economic Development Corporation is proud to recognize The Wash Freeport as a recipient of the Business Improvement Grant Program.

Under new ownership, The Wash Freeport is investing more than $385,000 to replace equipment and revitalize the facility at 1331 N. Avenue I. Through the Business Improvement Grant Program, the Freeport EDC approved a $10,000 reimbursement to assist with eligible improvements, supporting a much larger private investment in our community.

This project represents more than building improvements. It brings new ownership, new investment, and new employment opportunities to Freeport while returning a previously vacant business to active use.

The Wash Freeport will also work in partnership with Premiere Laundry to provide expanded services to customers. In addition, space is available within the facility for future businesses. Entrepreneurs interested in leasing space, such as a dry-cleaning operation or other complementary services, are encouraged to contact Mr. Gutzman for more information.

The Business Improvement Grant Program is designed to encourage private investment throughout Freeport by partnering with local businesses that are investing in their own properties. Every project represents a shared commitment to strengthening our community and supporting long-term economic growth.

🎉 Congratulations, Gulf Food Mart!

The Freeport Economic Development Corporation is proud to recognize Gulf food mart as the newest recipient of a Business Improvement Grant.

Gulf Food Mart is making a significant investment of approximately $1.7 million to expand and revitalize its property at 131 E. 5th St. The project includes improvements designed to enhance the appearance and functionality of the business while continuing to serve residents, visitors, and the many travelers and commercial vehicles that use State Highway 1495 and the Port of Freeport corridor.

Through the Business Improvement Grant Program, the Freeport EDC approved up to $33,500 in matching grant assistance for eligible landscaping, façade, property, and sign improvements. This partnership supports private investment that strengthens Freeport's commercial corridors and encourages continued economic growth.

This marks Gulf Food Mart's first Business Improvement Grant and represents the 15th Business Improvement Grant awarded by the Freeport EDC this fiscal year.
