124 golfers braved the brutal August heat and converged on Fort Rucker's Silver Wings Golf Course August 24th to help the Aviation Center Chapter of AAAAA raise money and awareness for the AAAA’s national scholarship program. The four-person team, The Usual Suspects, consisting of Bryon (Mac) McCrary, Jeff Humphrey, Bill Tyner and Bobby Osborn took top honors at the tournament with a score of 41. Bryce Manintin took the award for longest drive and Bill Tyner for the drive closest to the pin. The Aviation Center Chapter will donate all the profits from the tournament, more than $14,000, to the scholarship program that will support local Wiregrass continuing education students and graduating high school seniors in 2027. This year’s scholarship sponsors included Collins Aerospace, Navigator Development Group, Projects Unlimited, SunTest Systems Inc., BAE Systems, Lockheed Martin, FSI Defense, Aether Aerospace, Gentex and Disabled American Veterans - Enterprise, Ala. In-kind doners included Dothan Performance Golf Center and Choppers Ol’ School BBQ of Daleville.

SSG Thomas W. Treusch Jr. was inducted into the Honorable Order of Saint Michael – Bronze, at a ceremony on Fort Rucker, Aug. 5, 2026, hosted by COL Jeffrey Paulus, Fort Rucker garrison commander. Paulus highlighted Treusch’s accomplishments as an AOS instructor assigned to 1st Battalion, 13th Aviation Regiment, and his service as Fort Rucker’s BOSS (Better Opportunities for Single Soldiers )president. Treusch is also the recipient of the Military Outstanding Volunteer Service Medal with more than 600 volunteer hours. The ceremony was held at the CW4 Michael J. Novosel Soldier Service Center.

COL Dennis (Keith) Hill, brigade commander, 110th Aviation Brigade, Fort Rucker, Ala., accompanied by his wife Veronica, was inducted into the Honorable Order of St. Michael - Silver, at the U.S. Army Aviation Center of Excellence headquarters prior to his change of command July 30, 2026. MG Clair A. Gill, commanding general, Army Aviation Center of Excellence and Fort Rucker, hosted the ceremony and highlighted Hill’s significant accomplishments during his three-year command. With a fleet of more than 500 aircraft, the 110th Aviation Brigade plans, coordinates, and executes formal flight instruction to train U.S. Army and allied rotary-wing aviators and non-rated crew members.

SGM(R) Rick Parsons was inducted into the Silver Honorable Order of Saint Michael July 10, 2026, following his retirement from federal service. SGM(R) Parsons served more than 38 years of combined active duty and federal service with his final position as the Chief of Current Operations, Army Aviation Center of Excellence at Fort Rucker. MG Clair Gill, commanding general, U.S Army Aviation Center of Excellence, presented LTC Leah Steder, commander of Lyster Army Health Clinic, with the Knight of the Honorable Order of Saint Michael during her change of command ceremony at the Army Aviation Museum on Fort Rucker July 9, 2026. BG Jamie Burk, commanding general, Medical Readiness Command, East, was present for the presentation. Under her leadership, LTC Steder revolutionized Army aviation medicine, directly enhancing readiness. She pioneered virtual flight physicals and a Flight Surgeon of the Day process, cutting care access from 90 days to 24 hours. She slashed behavioral health waits from months to under 14 days and developed downed aircraft procedures that became the Army standard. Last Friday in the US Army Fort Rucker & AVCOE footprint at The Army Aviation Museum Foundation, the chapter returned the Army Aviation Association of America National Awards from the Summit in Nashville to their resting place in the museum. Army Aviation Association of America (AAAA) Aviation Center Chapter boardmembers, Soldier Volunteers and off the sidewalk passers by helped in the annual project. The AAAA Aviation Center Chapter wishes to thank everyone who had a helping hand in this task! Thanks to 1LT Will Domler, Micheal Sutterfield, Sam Baker and others.
