We were having too much fun to get any pictures outside today with Nature Explorers.

We are continuing to work on learning to observe nature. This week was all about recording words, numbers, and drawings in our nature journals.

We split into two groups, secretly chose a plant, gave clues about that plant, and then swapped notebooks and tried to find the plant the other group described. Our clues included everything from hints about where it was planted, color, number of blooms and stems, signs of insect activity, and everything in between.

We also learned that apples are a member of the rose family.

Lastly, we guessed how many seeds were in a dried sunflower bloom we had been saving. Thankfully an awesome parent counted them, and that one bloom had 399 seeds!

🎨 Maker Space Monday Recap!

Need some creative time? Join us for a relaxed afternoon of making, creating, and chatting!

Some people work on glue books or junk journals, while others bring completely different projects. Today I was even working on one of my own Pinterest-inspired projects while everyone else created something different.

It’s not an instructional class- just a welcoming space to body double, stay motivated, share ideas, and enjoy creating alongside other creative people.

Bring your project or start one here. We’d love to have you join us!

Over the past year, Nature Explorers has become a special program to us.

Thanks to the Girl Scouts of Alabama Troop 9052, we now have a beautiful nature garden where we can observe nature up close and personal.

In August we are transitioning to a family-style program where all ages can learn to observe and record their observations in their nature notebooks. We will be using the book How to Teach Nature Journaling by John Muir Laws and Emilie Lygren.

We will meet the first and third Friday of each month at 1:30. Lessons will be a combination of classroom time and outdoor observation time.

Hope to see you there!
