Meet Riley, a rising senior at Catawba Ridge! 🩵

Riley faithfully volunteers in so many ways, but her favorite role is helping organize the Foster Closet (Bless her!).

"I love knowing that I can help, even in small ways, and I love the community that it brings together." — Riley

We're so thankful for Riley's servant heart and the joy she brings to our mission. Volunteers like her help make it all possible! 🩵

Happy Father’s Day to the dads who open their hearts and homes to children who may not share their last name, but become part of their story.

The impact you make reaches far beyond today. We celebrate you and the difference you’re making in the lives of vulnerable children every day. ❤️

We're not going to lie...we all know teenagers can be hard. They're especially hard to engage when they're coming in guarded and hurting.

But Mill Town Church has a heart for teenagers and asked to host activities specifically for foster and adoptive teens. Last Sunday, it was incredible to watch them simply show up, spend time together, and make these teens feel seen and valued.

We saw one teen for the first time in September. She arrived looking like she'd rather be anywhere else in the world, but by the end of the afternoon, she was laughing and joking with everyone around her.

Another teen, who often needs a lot of redirection, got the chance to let his big personality shine.

Two more are going through some tough things at home due to a medical diagnosis and got to just be kids for a few hours.

Moments like these may seem small, but they're not. They build trust. They create connection. And they remind these teens that there are safe adults who genuinely care about them.

Thank you, Mill Town Church, for loving this group so well. ❤️

We were absolutely blown away by the generosity of New River Church ! They collected more than 160 brand-new backpacks for our Back 2 School program next month. When they saw a need, they didn't hesitate to meet it.

This incredible gift will help ensure local foster and adoptive children start the school year equipped and ready to succeed. What a beautiful example of a church living out generosity and serving its community well. Thank you, New River Church, for making such a meaningful impact! 🎒❤️

Behind this door, some important work is happening.
At our Inner Circle Parenting Reset Group, a licensed therapist is walking alongside parents as they dig into the real and often difficult parts of caring for children who have experienced trauma. Together, they’re building understanding, gaining practical tools, and finding support from others who truly get it.
Parenting children from hard places can feel overwhelming, but no one should have to do it alone. We’re grateful to provide a space where healing, growth, and connection can happen.

Today, our Executive Director, Caitlin, got to go on WRHI Radio for Straight Talk with Manning Kimmel and talk about her personal story with adoption as well as how Defend came to be. 🎙️What a fun way to get our mission out to York County! Thank you for having us, Manning! 📻
