Today Trooper Jason Marlow was our guest. We had a great opportunity to learn more about the history and current direction of the Iowa State Patrol, along with the many events Troopers assist with across Iowa—including several of the large events right here in our district, such as the Old Threshers Reunion and Tri-State Rodeo.

Trooper Marlow also shared information about the various communication tools used to help keep officers safe, along with some eye-opening statistics. So far in 2026, Troopers have issued more than 500 citations for drivers traveling over 100 mph and more than 10,000 citations for distracted driving issued by Iowa law enforcement with 60% of those coming from the Iowa State Patrol.

A big thank you to the Iowa State Patrol for the work they do to keep our communities safe, and to the State of Iowa for its continued commitment to properly funding and supporting our law enforcement officers.

Today was a full day of learning, inspiration, and ideas at Fort Madison Rotary!

We started by hearing from our two RYLA representatives, Moses Thacher and Charley Huebner, as they shared their experiences and the ideas they brought home. We’re excited to see their vision unfold as they work toward starting an Interact Club at the high school — potentially growing into a countywide opportunity for young people to get involved in service.

Congratulations, Moses and Charley! We can’t wait to see what you accomplish.

We also enjoyed a history lesson from fellow Rotarian William Napier, who shared insights into the Constitution, the vision and compromises of our founding fathers, and James Madison’s impact on the document that guides our country today — with a great local connection to Fort Madison, which was named in his honor.

A great reminder that leadership, service, and understanding our history all play an important role in building strong communities. 🇺🇸SERVICE ABOVE SELF!

Today we had the pleasure of welcoming Doug Snaadt to share updates on the exciting future of Sheaffer Memorial Golf Course.

This incredible community asset is celebrating its 65th anniversary this year and is embarking on several important projects to ensure the course remains a destination for generations to come.

Earlier this year, the $750,000 Capital Campaign officially launched, along with new opportunities for community support through course sponsorships, corporate play, and other partnerships. Funds raised will help complete much-needed improvements, including:
⛳ Parking lot upgrades
🌳 Landscaping enhancements
🚜 Equipment upgrades
💧 Irrigation system replacement and improvements

Sheaffer Memorial Golf Course is much more than a place to golf. Throughout the season, it serves as the host site for numerous fundraising tournaments that help local nonprofits and organizations raise money to support their missions and strengthen our community.

Thank you, Doug, for sharing the vision for the future of Sheaffer Memorial Golf Course and for all those who continue to invest in this valuable community resource. Here’s to 65 years of memories—and many more to come!

A double program marked today's events: the 'Passing of the Gavel' ceremony where Morgan handed over leadership to our new President, Laura, for the 2026/27 term, and a comprehensive program by Vic, covering travel's historical context and contemporary aspects.
We're excited about Laura's upcoming initiatives and thank Morgan for her tireless service to the Club. Welcome, Laura, to your new role.

The FM Area Art Center Vista Director, Lori Ilner-Green shared recent updates regarding the activities and forthcoming programs, including this month’s artist show by Nicole Obrien, events for June and the upcoming Summer Art Camp. A significant development is the introduction of more pottery equipment, designed for both experienced potters and those new to pottery through beginner classes. The glazing studio remains open, and this new equipment enhances the center's maker space offerings. With numerous events and programs scheduled each month, the art center invites interested parties to follow their page for the latest information.

Today we had the pleasure of having Jason Hutcheson with the Great River Health Foundation- to not only share his “dad jokes” but the impact the Foundation means to SE Iowa. Being able to provide support to those that may be having to make hard decisions when dealing with health care/personal life issues- not to mention community impact support is a directive of the Foundation. A couple funding sources for the not for profit organization include the Foundation Golf Outing in June at Sheaffer Golf Course as well as the Night of Dreams Gala event in November. The health system created a partnership with SCC to help those looking at healthcare careers, such as nursing and radiology programs. This directive is making it possible for those looking at healthcare careers to attend with financial support.

We were privileged to hear Hailey Ramatowski, a Fort Madison native, share her growth story and discuss the expansion of the Ramatowski Piano Studio. Through her collaboration with The Elliot Test Kitchen, she was able to initiate this opportunity for students aged 5-70, demonstrating that age is not a barrier to learning when it comes to pursuing one's passion. Students have the opportunity to showcase what they’ve learned in a spring concert or a Christmas concert. Currently her studio is located in Wever at the Crossing and new adventure including piano tuning…
