A community-based group who represent different interests who have come together to promote the creation and use of outdoor recreational trails in Fort Madison. We will operate as a sub-committee of the City of Fort Madison’s Parks and Recreation Department
Three phases have been effectively planned by our commission to develop and improve the existing recreational trails, creating a safe, access
ible and connected network. Phase 1 of the network will connect Ivanhoe Park to the existing Bluff Road Trail. Phase 2 will connect midway through Phase 1 west to 48th Street. Phase 3 will continue west from 48th Street through the Sports Complex to Fort Madison Community Hospital. The completion of these 3 phases will allow for longer and safer routes for daily exercise as well as connecting the residential sector to retail, healthcare and schools. Our ultimate goal is that people of all ages and abilities will be able to utilize these trails for leisure, exercise and transportation. Our commission is very serious about seeking grants and matching funds to set in motion Phase 1 of our trail development plan. Fundraising has already begun in the form of securing grants, donations and hosting various events promoting our cause.
