Travel ball has a game problem.

Too many teams are trying to develop players by simply playing more games. One practice during the week. Then 3–5 games on the weekend. Then repeat.

Games are important. They create pressure situations, expose weaknesses, and show us where players are performing well. But simply playing more games doesn’t fix those weaknesses. If development is really the goal, practice has to be a priority.

The truth is, it’s much harder to build and execute a quality practice plan than it is to just play more games. A good practice should include both development opportunities and competitive reps.

At a minimum, teams should be practicing 2–3 times a week on non-game weeks. And players, if the only time you practice is when you’re with your team, you’re probably not getting enough quality reps to truly improve.
