Harvest Brodiaea (Brodiaea elegans), Photos 1-3, in prime blooming time and Ithuriel’s Spear, Photos 4-5, just winding down in inland Sonoma County. There are pockets of these members of the Lily family on grassy hillsides. They are 2 of the 4 similar genera of Themidaceae. More natives in the built environment- here in town, front yard of a cannabis dispensary. Unusual buckwheat (Eriogonum nudum ‘Ella Nelson’) and unspecified phacelia with clarkia, all among other low growing plants. A nice late spring palette.

RED! In a shady canyon near you. Columbines (Aquilegia Formosa), Cobweb thistle (Cirsium occidentale), and a Catchfly or Indian pink (Silene laciniata ssp. californica) with Red ribbons (Clarkia concinna). Possible locations Shiloh Ranch Regional Park, Windsor or Clover Springs Preserve in Cloverdale.
