The start of our Summer Camp season is almost here, and we’re looking forward to all of the river time. Camp days are full of crafts, games, and connection. We go to the river at the end of the week to celebrate our finished projects, just like our students did to test their amazing tule raft.

If this sounds fun for your child, check out www.earthschool.org/camp to sign up!

One of our last days of school was spent expressing gratitude to the land that joyfully holds us. We harvested elderberry wood and made beads. Our youngest students to our oldest ones carved, sanded, and designed their beads with love. Then, we walked out into the forest and strung them up on trees at our favorite personal sights. These gifts back to the land will greet anyone else who travels on or off trail. 🌲

Thank you to our neighbors Shone Farm for letting us visit their animals this week! We walked over in the morning and got to say hi to all of the cows. Together, we marveled at how closely the mother cows protected their own. This remained a point of discussion for our students as they roasted snacks on the fire. 🐄

We had an adorable field trip to ! We were able to take tours of the sanctuary and learn the stories of multiple rescues. Our students got to see and interact with so many animals at this magical place like peacocks, horses, sheep, and of course all the goats. The precious baby goats definitely were the highlight of the trip, especially for students able to bottle feed them. 🐐

Our annual Spring Fundraiser is almost here, and the items we have for the silent auction are incredible! Every part of the upcoming evening is to support our school’s education model rooted in nature, community, and place. Every dollar donated directly and through our auction keeps our programs thriving, ensures tuition remains accessible to all families, funds scholarships, and cares for our 130-acre school property on the traditional Native lands of Ya-Ka-Ama. This events helps sustain a learning environment where children can connect deeply with nature, explore creatively, and grow with curiosity and care.

Support our school by donating and take a look at our auction site’s preview here: https://givebutter.com/c/GatherAndGrow/auction Keep an eye out for more items at the event on 5/16!

Surprise: we may have a new logo but we’re still the same Sonoma Earth School! 🌎❤️ Our new logo was lovingly designed by and inspired by a special animal roaming around here, the quail. We incorporated Pomo basket work in the quail’s patterns to acknowledge the ancestral land our school resides on and the Native peoples whose traditions we aim to honor. You can grab one of these awesome new hats at our Spring Fundraiser this Saturday 5/16 or at school next week!

Thank you to Edward from the Cultural Conservancy for visiting us and sharing a tule presentation with all of us. We’ve been using tule for our boat and canoe project, so Edward came to show us proper cordage techniques. For some of our students, this was the first time they ever worked on making cordage! Students got to ask Edward for advice on bundling with their model canoes, and then younger students braided a huge piece of cordage together after learning.

The Native Arts Festival in Windsor was a blast! It’s always fulfilling to be out in the community and meet new folks to share our school’s mission with. We got to demonstrate cyanotypes this time and used plants picked from our garden. 🌿 A huge variety of ages got to work making bandanas and cards for Mother’s Day weekend. We loved educating more of our community about Sonoma Earth School’s Native scholarships, homeschool programs, and summer camps.
