Trail Notes: Exploring Technology

Monday’s troop meeting combined the outdoors with technology!

Our Scoutmaster brought laptops, a projector, and a screen to introduce the troop to coding, cybersecurity, and digital technology. The scouts even got to play a game of Capture the Flag via codes!

The troop enjoyed the change of pace and the opportunity to explore something new. This meeting also gave the scouts a preview of some possibilities to consider as they prepare for next week’s Patrol Leaders’ Council (PLC) meeting.

From outdoor adventures to the digital world, Troop 5130 is always looking for new skills to learn and new challenges to tackle!

Saturday was rainy due to Hurricane Isaias, however that didnt stop K from getting out there and selling popcorn to reach her sales goal. Of course little brother came along to help support her.

Weekend Adventure: Aquatics Weekend

It may be fall, but the temps are still warm enough for Troop 5130 to squeeze in at least one more aquatics weekend—unless the scouts decide a polar bear plunge is on the agenda this winter!

Friday night, the scouts hit the water for some drills and tubing before winding down with a movie dockside. They also took turns on anchor watch, putting their skills and teamwork into practice.

Saturday brought more time on the water, with scouts practicing their skiing skills and, of course, fitting in plenty more tubing. The scouts also took a break from the water to practice an emergency drill and put their outdoor skills to work by building a survival shelter.

After a full day of adventure, the weekend wrapped up with an evening at Topgolf.

Leadership isn’t always about standing in front. Our girls are learning that true leadership also means standing side by side with others, helping, encouraging, teaching, and learning together.

Every girl in Troop 5130 has the opportunity to lead within the troop, but their leadership doesn’t stop there. Our scouts also serve as Den Chiefs for Cub Scout Pack 151 Flowery Branch working alongside Cub Scouts and helping them learn new skills, build confidence, and discover the fun of Scouting.

They’re learning to lead by example, whether they’re out front taking charge or right beside a Cub Scout helping them figure it out.

Weekend Adventure | Webelos Woods

This weekend, Troop 5130 stepped into leadership as they volunteered at Webelos Woods, a camporee for Webelos and Arrow of Light Scouts!

The girls put their skills to work judging Scout skill competitions, encouraging participants, and helping younger Scouts put their skills to the test.

It was a great weekend of leadership, service, and sharing the Scouting experience with younger scouts

Trail Notes: Meal Planning & Fire Building

Monday night was all about getting ready for the next adventure!

The scouts worked together on meal planning for their upcoming campout, thinking through what they’ll need to fuel their weekend.

Then it was time to put their Scout skills to work with some fire-building practice! From planning the meals to mastering the fire, the girls are getting ready to be prepared and confident in the outdoors.

Another night of learning, teamwork, and hands-on Scout skills!

Trail Notes:

Monday night was all about planning, practicing, and pioneering!

The scouts worked together to plan their October campout, then got hands-on practicing knots and lashings while building their own camp gadgets. From square knots to lashings, the girls were putting their Scout skills to work!

And, of course, no meeting is complete without a little fun… they even managed to sneak in a few chariot rides! 🛞😂

Another night of Scout skills, teamwork, and a whole lot of fun!

Weekend Adventure | ILST Training

This weekend, the NEGA Council brought Scouts from across the council together for Family Training Weekend, including ILST — Introduction to Leadership Skills for Troops.

Troop 5130 sent two Scouts to take part in the training and build their leadership skills. One of those Scouts, Kayleigh, even got to reconnect with Scouts she met at NYLT, who were back together leading activities and helping the next group of Scouts grow as leaders.

Saturday morning brought plenty of rain, but that didn’t stop these Scouts! They kept going, worked together, tackled the activities, and learned that leadership doesn’t stop when the weather turns.

We’re proud to see our Scouts stepping up, building confidence, and learning how to lead their troop — one adventure at a time.

Leadership is an adventure, too. ⚜️

Trail Notes: Rain doesn’t cancel leadership. It just gives you another opportunity to practice it.

Today, we remember those we lost on September 11 and honor the courage shown by first responders, service members, and everyday Americans who stepped forward when it mattered most.

The legacy of that day reminds us why service, leadership, and compassion matter. These are the same values we work to instill in our Scouts….being prepared, helping others, showing kindness, and standing steady when things are hard.

As we move through our day, may we take a moment to reflect, to remember, and to choose to be a positive force in our communities. May we honor the past by living with purpose today.
