I'm honored to share that I've received the endorsement of the Florence Fraternal Order of Police Lodge #33. Public Safety is foundational to a strong community, and I deeply respect the work our officers do each day to protect and serve Florence. This endorsement reflects a shared commitment to safety, trust, and collaboration between our city and those who serve it.

I'm grateful for their support and look forward to working together to ensure Florence remains a safe, welcoming place for everyone. I promise to work hard every day to prove this endorsement was well placed!

Another year is wrapping up, and we were proud to once again host a successful Christmas with Cops event.

A few weeks ago, we kicked things off with our auction at The 859 Taproom and Grill. A huge thank you to Jeff and Mandy for hosting us! Also, thanks to the generosity of our community and donations from local businesses and non profits such as The Home Depot, DICK'S Sporting Goods, Big Blue Moving, Jeff Wyler Honda in Florence and many others we were able to fund this event.

We started off the event by going to Chick-fil-A Mall Road for a great breakfast where we were met by Santa and Mrs Claus. Then we started our shopping at Meijer who graciously hosted us for the event. Each child was given a set amount of money to shop not only for themselves, but also for their families.

The day wrapped up at Dave & Buster's, where gifts were wrapped, lunch was served, and the kids enjoyed a few hours of games before heading home with full arms, full bellies, and big smiles.

None of this would be possible without the continued support of our community, local businesses, and the officers who give their time every year. Thank you for helping us make Christmas a little brighter this year.

Today we honor all veterans—past and present—whose courage and sacrifice protect our freedoms and inspire us every day.

To those who continued that service as police officers, thank you for keeping our communities safe. Your dedication is the heart of what we do.

Evelyn's mom shares that their best update is that there is no update! She is stable and reaching all the regular milestones for her age. We are so happy for this sweet family! Go Evelyn!

Please join us in congratulating Officer Michael Stanaland and his family for receiving the “Distinguished Service Award” at the Florence City Council Meeting on 9/23/25. The award typically goes to an officer who distinguishes themselves by demonstrating exceptional service which brings credit upon themselves and/or the Florence Police Department. The service cited must be of such exceptional character that it contributed, in significant measure, to the success of a major endeavor. The Stanaland family received the award for an act of compassion and selflessness by opening their home to a young child in need and eventually becoming the child’s foster family. The Florence Police Department is very proud to have Officer Michael Stanaland and his family as part of our family.

The Florence Police Department would like to congratulate Officer Jake Sander for being awarded the Carnegie Medal for Heroism from the Carnegie Hero Fund Commission. Officer Sander, risking his own life, helped save the life of a Florence resident who had fallen through the ice of a pond off of Rio Grand Blvd. in Florence on January 12th, 2025. This is a very prestigious national award and we are honored to have a member of our department receive this recognition. Officer Sander and BCSO Sgt. Jonathan Ball were also awarded the Florence Police Department's Medal of Valor for this event. For more information, visit: https://www.carnegiehero.org/heroes/latest-award-announcements/
